lets talk about conciousnes. conciousnes to be precise can
not be in a 'state' what is in a state is in fact YOUR
BRAIN. So, how the fuck can drugs, expand your conciousnes?

i suppose some people would find it extremely offending,
condescending, arrogant, ridiculous etc if i said i feel
deeply sorry for people who refuse to have a psychedelic
experience at least once, for whatever reasons they may
have.

I am deeply sorry for people who refuse to have a
psychedelic experience at least once.

To try and explain why that is, is like trying to explain
what the world looks like to a person who has been blind
his/her entire life.

some people have serious negative reactions to psychedelic
experiences, like overt paranoia and hellish introspective
nightmares. you may say this can be benificial to humans by
learning from this but most of them come out a wreck. some
people are just not meant to have psychedelic experiences.

psychedelic experiences are all good and shit. but they
might sound like bullshit to a sober person

That's actually a very good point and i was careless enough
to oversee it.

I do know that and i should have put it another way. People
who suffer from any form of mental illness, or in case a
history of mental illness is known in someones relatives,
should most likely not take psychedelics. At least not
outside a therpeutical setting.

The people with 'sober minds' that have preconceptions
regarding psychedelics AND people who are afraid of them
(and there is nothing wrong with that per se) however,
should, in my opinion, never say never.

i should expand on the means to this end:

the buddhist concept of enlightment describes a state
where one is released from all attachment, including the
self and ego, the five senses, and all derived
preconceptions.

the 'state' is one of extremely deep meditation.
'enlightenment' is the realisation made by the meditator
while in this state.

youre right to say that deep meditation reflects death. the
process of reaching the centre of our being (the mind)
invloves a letting go of all cognition and physical
awareness.

buddhist belief suggests that when we actually do die, it is
the mind that remains and is reborn into a new body.

so given what ive described so far, i might describe why the
dalai lama would say he has not reached enlightenment.

what is the next step after one reaches enlightenment?

this person is an arahant. they have now broken the cycle of
rebirth. the mind disappears from this world completely and
moves into the spirit realm, or nibbana.

the dalai lama is a monk from the mahayana buddhist
tradition. being of this order, he has taken the bodhisattva
vow, which to put it roughly, states that 'i will not leave
this world until all other beings are enlightened'.

theravadin buddhist monks do have the bodhisattva vow in
their tradition. they are free to become arahants and enter
nibbana.

those are some technicalities surrounding branches of
buddhism. but lets not forget that enlightenment can take a
large number to rebirths to realise! the dalai lama may yet
reach this state in his lifetime, or it may occur in a
future life. the buddha himself reached enlightenment on his
10th rebirth.

the bodhisattva vow :)

I dunno, anyone who does drugs nowadays is kind of stupid in
my opinion.

Saying anyone who does drugs is intelligent is just as bad
as saying anyone who does drugs is stupid. Don't be stupid.

Well, it all comes down to societal definitons of "drugs"
then doesn't it. If anyone who takes drugs is stupid... well
that's just about everyone really...

Well, I said that under the assumption that that was a
personal stash (got that vibe from the caption of the pic)
but you're right, it could also be someone's "inventory," so
to speak.
