As 7Pd says, the best Sennheisers you can get in the price
range. They wee on other headphones from a great height.

Ive used grados and sennheiser and etymotics, but I read
some raving reviews for these and they are absolutly
awesome. Most comfortable too! You probably won't take my
advice but don't say i didn't tell you so.

sennheisers px200 sound awesome,
they cut out a lot of street noise aswell

their cables lasted longer than any others i had ever,
but after 2 years i gave them back to put in a new cable.
luckily just in warranty time.

so i say take those, but be careful with the cable.
if you carry the mp3 player everyday,
dont cram it in a tight pocket :)

the day will come when wireless headphones for portables
come up and i will celebrate this day every year then...

Beyerdynamic (sorry, not beyerdinamic) are very good
headphones!
Different models (open/close) so u choose the best for you.
Mine's are 770Pro. More here.

They are very very confortable, I used mines for hours with
no problems... Mostly for live monitoring tasks (u can't mix
on headphones). Also, mine are close design because I
usually place myself close to the drummer.

Another thing: They have quite an extended freq range, so u
can hear deep bass freqs that will not come out in most
systems. Be carefull with that. They show every tiny detail,
very accurate.

Their model DT150 has been a standard in most studios for a
long time.

That's it!

Those are what I use. They are so clear and have such a flat
frequency response that you never need to turn them up loud,
even in a club. Some people dislike the fact they don't
really "cover" your ears the same way bigger closed back
headphones do, but they really don't need to- you can hear
everything fine and once music is playing on them, it's hard
to hear someone talking right next to you. I have honestly
never come across a better pair of headphones for DJing.

For some reason, they don't have as good a reputation for
producing (they're not percieved as bad, but it's always
mentioned how good they are for DJing, or stage performance,
rather than producing/engineering). I find them great for
producing. Only thing I don't give them top marks on is
listening. Sound quality on a hi-fi/mixer is great, but when
used on portable devices, it's very fuzzy (though to be
fair, that's not what it's designed for). The chord is also
a bit too short to really let you get comfy in a chair
without using an extension, unless it's right up next to
your amp.

They're also pretty comfy (for my head at least) considering
how hard they push against the sides of your head. I've worn
them for about 5-6 hours straight before without any
discomfort. Fold up very small too- I can fit mine in the
pocket of my record bag- something I've not managed with any
other closed back headphones.

A nice bonus is Sennheiser sell all the replacement bits for
them too. So, whilst they're pricey, you can fix anything
that breaks on them yourself, comparatively cheaply.
Although, that said, nothing on mine has broken in 4-5 years
of very heavy use; been used practically every day,
gigged, dropped, sat on, landed on top of them in a
motorcycle accident, etc.

these are really good, just had a quick play and seem rather
sexy.
first 2 things i noticed is how liteweight and how comfy.
only drawback as yet is the lead is indeed a little short.
tho should be fine for my use.
VLARI i think you should look into these suckers.

As for monitoring headphones... I don't really have any idea
in truth. I have produced music on my HD 650's which sounds
really great on those particular phones but turns to slush
on lesser-quality cans. I also have a pair of Shure E4C's
which are particularly rich in the high end.

I suppose the best solution is to buy multiple headphones...
some really cheap, crappy technics from Argos as well as
some higher quality headphones from Sennheiser. If your
music sounds decent across the entire range, then it should
sound decent on any setup.
