Hi Folks, got any recommendations of good ambient/minimal
techno with a space theme (samples of space missions,
rockets, etc.) For example, something a bit like Seti
Project by Biosphere?

TIA.

ohman, SETI Project is a fav+ track, as for music of similar
type, i'm afraid i fail miserably

I've got SETI Project on 12" and am looking forwards to
hearing it on a club system for the first time. I'm going to
be using 2 decks with a 3 channel mixer as the main part of
the setup, so will probably be using a laptop with Ableton
Live as a sampler for various space samples to "Space up"
regular ambient and techno tracks.

Hanal, ta for that, checking that out now.

"apollo" by alan parsons (from the On Air album - house
track)

"experimental material" by brixton (amateur guy - tracks are
about russian spacecraft)

if you can find them.

Ta for those Ezkerraldean.

Now, I'm pretty sure that somewhere on your HD you have a
few 100mb of .wav recordings of radio dialogue from rockets
and sounds of rockets taking off. Any chance you could sort
me out with a copy of those? ;)

true. forgot about them.

ceri: nah i havent, actually. wish i did. go and buy/steal
some space travel/science documentaries and record sounds
from them. and remember, everything from NASA is in the
public domain so if you use the sounds for a track you don't
need to acknowledge them.

there's a version of PPK - ressurrection with a minute or so
of russian launch pad chatter at the end. and the video has
old soviet rocket and cosmonaut footage in it. cool.

I won't win any friends for mentioning Starseeds.

Some of the quieter tracks on Reload's sci-fi "A collection
of Short Stories"

The ultimate space themed space album "Space" by Space AKA
The KLF's Jimi Cauty.

Milan - Earthloop from the E:MIT 0094 compilation. A lot of
the early E:MIT stuff was quite space influenced actually.
God, I miss that label (and I know it came back recently but
it was nowhere near its former glory)

Yep, tracks off 1 & 3 will be used. I'm definately going to
be using lightworks at some stage. :)

Brisk: Ta, will check that out.

I fail on suggestions but I used to watch the space channel
on sky years ago.

If you can rig up some sort of bastard offspring of a field
recording device and a time machine, that would be ideal. ;)

No-ones suggested Arpanet yet? Ok, it's not quite techno,
it's electro, but there is some strange ambient stuff on the
latest album Inertial Frame.

Tomita

The planets
Dawn chorus
firebird
kosmos
the bermuda triangle

these always make me think of clockwork orange for some
reason.

Of course yes, Tomita's good. His versions of the pieces
that he's done outrun Wendy/Walter Carlos' by miles.
