I've got a friend who's doing it everyday. Not a large
dose, about 40-80ml in the morning and at night. I'm sure
this can't be good. He doesn't accept the voice of reason,
like when I tell him he's depressed the next day because of
the hangover. He just does more. I've used google plenty so
if any of you have some information or experience with it,
please share. I think he should stop doing it. Maybe monoid
can answer to this thread.

its one of the only recreational drugs besides PCP and
ketamine that cause direct brain lesions with long term use.
Look up "Onley's lesions".

Everyday? Fuck, thats not good at all. Doesn't matter what
it is really, moderation is key.

actually ive found of all the heavy psyedelics/psychoactives
(yes i know dxm is a dissasociative if youre going to nit
pick), dxm is probably the easiest to do on a regular basis,
in terms of how well your psyche handles it at least. (eg. i
couldnt do mushrooms regularly, my brain just wouldnt be
able to handle it)

out of curiosity, how much is this guy doing per day? you
say 40-80 ml, but thats all dependent on the concentration
of dxm in it. if its anywhere above 350 mg, hes gonna be
rotting his brain in no time, altho im sure at lower/below
threshold levels its still gonna do damage, but once youre
hitting the third or fourth plateau, thats where the real
damage starts.

never to do dxm ever again. in case you have some time to
waste you can read it here

just to clarify, there was most probably more than just dxm
in those gel caps, which is a big mistake, AND he crushed up
the xr caps, which is exactly not what youre supposed to do
as dxm needs to be dissolved in the stomach in order to
react.

its my own trip report. i had done research on that stuff
for weeks prior to that experience. Had i not crushed up the
balls (the gelcaps don't cause the extended release effect)
i might have been tripping for god knows how much longer.
And how does crushing something up prevent it from
dissolving in your stomach?

dextromethorfanhydrobromide-monohydrate is for all i know,
DXM and is listed as the ONLY active ingredient in those
caps.

offline hedphukkerr from mathbotton (United States) on 2007-03-06 14:34 [#02058996]

ok, well ill trust you on that dxm was the only ingredient;
im only skeptical of that because in the us you cannot buy
capsules with strictly dxm, theyre always combined with
other nasty things which at the dosage at which you trip
either kill your kidneys or make you vomit blood.

dxm does however have to be swallowed in pill form or
suspended in an alcohol solution to have the full effects;
otherwise not all of it will reach your stomach.

on second read, seems you had a pretty normal dxm trip
really - double vision, closed eye visuals, the robowalk,
and of course dissasociation. as you said, guess its just
not for you.

He does about 40-80ml in the morning and at night.
5ml = 15mg dxm. There are some other things in it too. He
also likes to take these doses with rockstar energy drinks
or coffee. He also used to take these with gravol but
stopped because drowsy is the opposite of what he wants to
get from the trips.

Btw thanks jackeroffer, looked that up and found a great
read on erowid. Showed it to my friend and I think I scared
him away from the shit. Well I hope.

When I was a senior in high school (I'm 24 now), my friend
and I found out about it in the lovable vaults of Erowid.
Both of us had tripped numerous times on 'Cid and shrooms,
and we were stoked that there was the possibility of having
a trippin good time legally and without the hassle of
scoring. Now the idea of drinking a whole bottle of cough
made me gag so after we found the dreaded CORICIDIN, we
indulged. That was the first of numerous times. Numerous
AND increasing as the time went by. DXM was super fun for
the longest time (2 years, doing it ON AVERAGE 2-3 times a
week, sometimes more or less). But after a while, I had to
take 2 boxes of Coricidin to reach the 3rd plateau. There
were a couple of reasons why I stopped. The fact that I
could actually feel the negative side effects of the other
drug in Coricidin building up in my system, was one. The
fact that it made me so unmotivated at all times (as in even
when I was sober) was another. I had a problem with cough
medicine! Am I a loser or what? The thing is though, DXM
is deceiving. Weed enhances the buzz 10 fold, and brings
out properties in the DXM that wouldn't normally show up.
Weed, a 3rd plateau trip, and a completely dark room would
take you on a journey that at least rivaled LSD. Imagine
literally making your environment to your own design.
Example: In a pitch black bathroom, I was SEEING myself
taking a scenic and intense walk through some rain forest
that looked like south america or somewhere. It was a fully
interactive enviornment, and I could change it to suit my
wants. It looked as real as reality. But fun aside, there
were serious repercussions and If you want to know what they
were, tell me and I'll tell you.
AT ANY RATE, I apologize for the long post. This is
actually my first post on this message board so HI
EVERYBODY!

I wouldn't mind knowing. Had some harsh experiences myself
with weed and shrooms.

from my experience (which is very similar to our new friend

poor word retrieval.

im also just a bit crazy in general, but who knows if thats

(i was using dxm most frequently during the summer of 2002,

Ok then Gwely... As far as long term goes, this is only the
noticeable effects, not including the stuff that may be
damaged but are not showing signs yet. First off is my
cognitive response. Now I don't know if it is the right
term, but basically, it takes me longer to do just about
anything in everyday life that requires heavy thinking. It
pretty much GAVE me ADD, which hadn't been a problem before.
It also gave me permanent (so far anyway) tracers. When
something goes past my field of vision fast, I see a trail
following it (That doesn't bother me really but it isn't
exciting or anything). Physically, I have recovered fully
(as far as I know), but for a few months after I stopped
(2001-2?), I had a serious difficulty pissing and had to sit
down most of the time. It is also addictive to people with
addictive personalities. Now not many people LIKE dxm let
alone get addicted to it, but it seems to me that the drug
effects vary from person to person. Some people it just
makes sick for hours and hours. I on the other hand, was a
straight up C-Tard (a nickname me and my boy thought up,
C=Coricidin...). As far as short term negative effects (and
these can be dangerous as fuck if the dxm is ingested daily
for an extended amount of time), you have mad dehydration.
What is odd is that dxm makes everything taste odd, making
beverages sometimes taste unpleasant. That, and depending
on what plateau you are on, you MAY just forget to drink!
You can sometimes tell when someone has been binging is
after 1 REALLY hard night or 2-3 moderate nights of binging,
the eyes tend to sink back a little, giving a person a
hollow look. I dunno, I'll write more tomorrow as I am
getting sleepy. Parting words: I last ate DXM last April.
Good times of course. I found out then that when done 2-3
times a year, you can partake in the DXM and have a
wonderful experience, with no lasting damage. Also, if
someone tells you they hit the 4th plateau, they are
probably lying, as it is hard to get to that point.

wow! i learned, or rather, recalled a lot just by reading
through this thread. i was like, dxm?! they must mean dmx.
but shit, when hedphukker described j198's trip report with
the robowalking and such i was like, damn sounds like
coricidin and then michelnicholas' post confirmed that
thought. so yeah, fuck that shit. i've only done it once
and i took a sheet and a half, that's like what, 12 pills.
i probably wouldn't of thought it was so special if i hadn't
been surrounded by half naked 17 year old grrlz. they can
get me to do anything. who can turn down the chance to
snort coke off of a hot chicks ass? anyway that's another
story for a different day. i had no idea what i had gotten
myself into. started by taking a whole sheet around 9pm or
so. had to be at work the next morning at 7 am, 10 hours
later. lol! stupid. sucky things were the grrlz only had
the same ladytron album on repeat the whole time. i tried
to get them to listen to the 2nd cd of 26m4$ (only aphex i
had in my car since the 1st had been previously stolen out
of it) but as soon as it got to the heart of it all the
grrlz freaked out and turned it off. there was a balcony
off one of the bedrooms upstairs that i had envisioned some
type of cliffside costal community like a venice or some
other medditeranean town outside and described to it some
grrlz as they oohed and ahhed. then after maybe 3 hours of
sleep i had to go to work. which of course i was three
hours late. i looked like death frozen over and reheated in
a microwave. people probably thought i was a ghost when i
walked through the office. my boss figured i suffered
enough through my actions to not heed any disciplinary
action. i was so friggen depressed like so so so fuckin
depressed afterwards when i was coming down it's like i
figured everything inside and out all the way through and
scared the living shit out of me. like i walked into
another dimension and the door slammed shut behind me so i
could never return again. just to reiterate; sucked.

Ok. I'm not going to blame the post for my actions, as I am
in recovery as it is (Heroin 3-yrs clean), but I ate DXM
last Thursday. I hadn't done it for about a year, and was
quite apprehensive of what would happen, considering I was
in a really horrible state of mind at the time due to a
recent family conflict (Not drug related). So I went to the
drugstore and asked the pharmacist for a box of Coricidin
Cough & Cold. I went home, ate half a bowl of these thai
noodles, then popped 12 of the 16 pills. About 15 min
later, I said fuck it, and ate the remaining 4. Now I knew
I was in for a ride as it had been so long since my last
indulgence and I was also expecting to vomit at the 50-70
minute mark but I didn't. At about +60 min, I got a
"Private" phone call. I never answer these. EVER. This
time I did, then managed to spend an hour and a half
blubbering my way through a conversation trying to work shit
out with my family.... Dear god... Plus - Everything
worked out ok with them, and after I got off the phone, I
smoked some shrubs, watched Eraserhead, and smoked more
weed. Great closed eye visuals but I didn't hit the 3rd
plat. Felt a pleasant afterglow the next day, intensified
by weed. Sorry for the long post. Just thought I'd share!
