Looks gritty, seems it might have a more serious tone... GTA has always had stylized, cartoonish graphics but this looks like it might have more of an edge to it, which is fine with me. I only play these games for the missions, I don't fuck around.

I wonder about the location. Will it be confined to this ''Liberty City'', if that IS its real name? I'm really hoping to have some countryside to roam again. If this IS Liberty City, will it be a completely reimagined version of it? Or an expanded version with all the original area plus more? Liberty City always had my favorite atmosphere and layout of all the GTA settings.
More questions raised than answered in this teaser (not trailer). Which is fun I guess, but... arrgghghh.

time line wise... i dont mind.... the location looks amazing.....
what would be awesome if they made a game that intersected with the previous games. That would be wild to see and hear some of the previous plots and have to navigate around them....
AND actually if it is in fact Liberty city... it would be amazing if they did an add on pack that let you play all the previous games in this "new" version of that city environment.
THAT would be wild....

I won't be truly happy unless I can have destructable scenery. I want to destroy buildings and have them being rebuilt over time. Make a crane fall over into another building. Real physics. I demand this stuff.

yeah destructable scenary would be ace, but more importantly id like interactive scenary. Like the ability to go into any building climb to the top floor, and jump off the very top of the roof. If they do not include this i will be very very sad. I fear its just going to be a massive graphical update to the engine but the engine will pretty much stay identical. It probably wont be much more impressive than Saints Row (which is a pretty shit game imo)

Definitely not reading too much into it, the Koytaanisqatsi influence is very obvious. The middle of that is pretty much note for note. Pop culture reference # 1,943,494 in the GTA series.

I don't think he's reading into it too much, the Qatsi trilogy is nothing obscure. Glass and Reggio seem to have many fans among the people who want to be regarded as art lovers or something. And why would the Rockstar guys be forbidden to belong to that aspirating type? The guys I studied computer science with fitted the stereotype perfectly.
Of course the Koyanisqatsi technique works very well for trailers and showing the grandeur of outdoor locations. It's cliched but I will never expect original approach to art design from a computer game. The development takes too much money and it has to pay back.

It works excellently here. And Rockstar isn't new to this kind of thing, they kind of went for a film-noir art style with Max Payne (especially 2). For a straightforward shooter it's sort of ambitious.
I wonder how ''tongue-in-cheek'' GTA4 is going to be... the realistic new style might make for a sort of, erm, disturbing experience compared to how it felt when you were slaughtering the stylized, low-poly cartoon characters of the older games. Kind of an uncanny valley thing.

Fumito Udea is probably the closest thing in this infant medium. It has potential.
I really love Hideo Kojima's imagination the most, but mind you that what he does is uber-pastiche. Metal Gear is such a ridiculous blast.

You guys. The sound, it's not "Philip Glass-esque", it IS Philip Glass. As people have said, it's from Koyaanisqatsi OST. The game itself looks amazing, and from the thematics of it I would venture to guess that high-rise architecture is going to define this game, which is all for the better after the flat-line horizon of San Andreas.

I hardly remember anything at all about Las Venturas, but I think it's not so much that the cities aren't intersting so much as they're underutilized. I especially loved the huge hills in San Fierro, but they're just not put to good use.
