I have been warned that my ratio is not good and have been given 12 days or so to sort it out.
I am using a Mac and I was wondering what the best software to rip stuff from CDs would be (I use iTunes right now).
A step by step instruction would be great as I have been reading the instructions on the site and they seem PC orientated. I have been attempting to upload stuff myself but can't. Last time I got the error message that the file wasn't a .torrent file, when it was.
Also what does "V0" mean in the request bit?

V0 is a preset of the LAME mp3 encoder.
It is a quality setting. With a variable bit rate of about 220 - 260kbs if I'm not mistaken.

Is there a LAME encoder for the Mac?

Do you have your ports forwarded correctly?.. Does oink say that you are "clever"?
Cause, if not, that is step #1.

I'm not really sure. Also, I've never uploaded or even created a torrent before, so my usefulness here is pretty much extended.

I'm on a mac, and went the extra mile to set up a virtual pc just for EAC, it was painfully slow, but it worked. To rip stuff natively in os x, Max does a decent enough job, it has the LAME encoder built in and can do FLAC and loads of other formats. But for cue and log files,i'm afraid I dont know - that's why i ended up ripping in EAC.
V0 is an encoder setting in LAME

Thank you I will try when I get home, and also attempt to be "clever"!

I am also on mac and I cant work out how to make a new torrent either, I've given up trying because I think unless someone spells it out for me I'm too much of a thicko to ever succeed

oh yeah you do really need to be clever to keep a ratio... I have managed to do that so maybe I can help but it might depend more on your router than your mac.

When I work it out I will let you know. I don't want to loose my account and I do have quite a lot of stuff that is not on there.

Check back in a bit and I will write a walk through.

being clever is the key, and if you can manage to upload some big fat flacs (tip: look in the requests section for things people are interested in)

Thank you.
I feel bad because it was you that invited me and it looks like I have abused your favour, when it wasn't intensional, it is just me getting to grips with my new computer.

Yep, Livar holds the key.
If you get clever and figure out the torrent upload process, I'll download whatever you're able to upload to help you out.

in theory its very simple, you need to find the port forwarding setting in your router and make one for bittorrent at some number (I use 13000 but it can be any big number) and make sure it is applied to your computer (your IP on the network). You may need to set up static IPs for that part which I found a bit troublesome although again it should be really simple... router configuration is just problematic for no good reason in my experience.
Then you have to tell your bittorrent client what port it should use.
You can find OS and router specific guides for both of these things
here
I use Azureus and it has a little function to test whether the port you selected is letting stuff through properly, which is very useful when you think you've got it set up. And when I switched to the standard BitTorrent client for a while, I lost my 'cleverness' on oink for some reason so Im sticking with Azureus... I like it anyway.

if you can upload stuff with demonoid easily, does it mean you should be able to upload stuff with oink easily?
