Richard D. James on the Internet

Do you think he:

a) Doesn't give a damn about the Internet. Probably has a PC
at home, but only uses once in a while it for e-mail for
contacting his buddies and record industry people.

b) Uses the Internet pragmatically, for information search
and dialogue (about synths, Spain holiday bookings, etc.),
in a discreet manner.

c) Spends a lot of time on the net, observes what people
write about him, and posts on various message boards and
such under various aliases.

B
couldnt be a, cause he has to use it to find out about new
technology
definately couldnt be c, because he doesnt care what people
think of his music...
thats just me

well he does read the planet-mu boards from time to time
(something i dont think most casual internet users would do,
seems like a particularly internet-nerd thing to do imo
;-)). we have a confirmed Aphex semi-drunken rant analog vs
digital post about 1 month ago. ill try to dig it up if i
can

he's also said in interviews that he's been banned from
forums on occasion.

he makes music for himself...hahah

"i just couldnt see him looking at what people say about
him"

you should ask Joyrex (the guy in charge of watmm) about
that. apparently before Druqks was out, RDJ personally sent
Joyrex a copy long before its actual release. Joyrex said
the cd was "pretty good" and the rest is history. RDJ took
the comments "pretty good" as an insult about the music and
apparently they have never spoken since. I think he
pretends he doesnt give a shit, but its more than likely a
knee jerk reaction to how built up his image has been by the
media. He says he doesnt shit to such an extreme that i
think deep down he gives a big shit about what people think.

yes, it's one way to deal with pressure, wich one
inevitably feels when constantly compared to a god, made out
as a saviour etc. not just the press if you ask me. the guy
has some of the most annoying fans in the world.

I think he sealed his doom releasing "drukqs", if he'd just
released some "good Aphex music" ok, but no, he creates the
musical equivalent of The X-Files+Star Trek TNG + Magick The
Gathering x Internet x at a time when the first generation
of Internet teenies logged on and suddenly he's gathered
around himself like a cloud of shit flies a globe's worth of
fucking dweebs who think that bloody awful album is the be
all and end all of music.

look up the interview where he talks about having to have
self-discipline not to stuck checking your mails and your
downloads constantly, and in the same answer he talks about
how its difficult to get stuck doing music when you can be
online.
i cant find it, but its there. its a more recent interview,
i guess in the past 6 years it was.

I shall provide a test question-set to which both of you
must provide answers. As a control to the experiment,
tridenti may also answer:

0. Do you like eggs? Or cheese? Or muffins?

1a. Name at least one pseudonym you have used to release
music, but which is not known to be you. (You can provide
more than one if you like).

1b. Name at least one psyeudonym you haven't used to release
music. Or do anything at all with.

1c. (Optional) Swap the answers round for questions 1a &
1b.

2. How many types of material do you have lining your shoes
(across your entire collection of shoes).

3. What the teet?

4. Tell everyone it's "heat". Maybe then they'll shut the
fuck up about it.

5. I've got bored with this so just ramble on like internet.

0. Do you like eggs? Or cheese? Or muffins?

-I prefer tanks and banks.

1a. Name at least one pseudonym you have used to release
music, but which is not known to be you. (You can provide
more than one if you like).

-Aphex Twin, Madonna, J.R. Tolkien

1b. Name at least one psyeudonym you haven't used to
release
music. Or do anything at all with.

-Sorry, isn't such. I make music with every pseudonym ever
made.

1c. (Optional) Swap the answers round for questions 1a &
1b.

-I have no time for silly optional questions. I have colors
to taste and food to hear dammit!

2. How many types of material do you have lining your shoes
(across your entire collection of shoes).

-I prefer sandals. It's r8 gr8.

3. What the teet?

-Secret Welsh black magic spell.

4. Tell everyone it's "heat". Maybe then they'll shut the
fuck up about it.

-I'll just tell everyone I never sleep and do awesomozaurus
music that I throw into a meatgrinder later. Along with a
mic. They love this shit.

5. I've got bored with this so just ramble on like
internet.

-OK. I have a secret to tell. Did you know that Drukqs
actually stands for "druk-que-s"? As in "drug use". The more
you know.
And Analord isn't really Analog Lord. It's an anal one.

I still love the idea of him being logged in all the time
but never posting anything. Like we all know (somehow) that
he's reading everybody's posts, but with no response. How
would it change the dynamic of the board? Would people
insult him? Try to impress him? Spam him? Abuse him? It
would drive everybody nuts. Mr D. James as a malign
