Requiem for a Dream

just watched this film today after several recommendations
from friends and such. i thought it was amazing for the most
part.

the only complaint i have is that the theme of addiction was
a bit overstated and unrealistic. anyone (with more
experience with this subject than myself) care to discuss?

i guess the closest i've come to severe addiction would be
video games during high school, but that never led to
anything as exciting as a degrading lesbian sex show

All I remember from this movie is Jennifer Connelly bumping
uglies with another girl via a double sided dildo. Or was
that something else?

i only watched it once a few years ago. i liked it all
right then. i've seen pi since then, and i hated that. i
don't think i would like this movie anymore though. and
yeah, the whole addiction thing seems silly. like that guys
arm started rotting off after 9 months of shooting up?

your arm can rot and fall off after only shooting up once,
if its infected and goes untreated.

well i fucking love it. epic soundtrack, most original and
creative directing seen in years, considering it was done in
99 you gotta realise alot of stuff that you see today that
looks similar is actually a rip of requiem.

aranofsky self funded the project from the cash he made from
PI (his first ever film)

Yes the world of addiction is that fucked, yes peoples lives
can slip that quickly.

Neigggg B123 the high horse soldier..
yeah its a gay movie whatever erhrhrhh so cliche' eww gross
etc..
go watch RV or daddy day care

big and spectacular style exercise, but a bit empty beyond
the package, imo...

silence is nice too

"most original and creative directing seen in years,

that's very bold of you! :)
i hate aronofsky for the exact opposite. i feel he is a
total biter with no artistic conscience whatsoever (if such
a thing can be said). i don't mean to be rude but i do feel
you haven't got much to back your statement. i'm not having
a go at your taste btw, it's always nice to enjoy something.

Thankyou for your much more mature response than the griffin
man. who didn't back up his claim btw. :P

It was bold hey, but I was a 18yo know-it-all when that
movie came out and was a big requiem fan boy for some time.
I said the stuff I did becuase of the prominence of the
strapped to body close up shots you see so much in
mainstream cinema these days that I don't remember much of
before RFAD.

I also like the way that used split screen as a vehicle of
story telling and to say so much more about the characters
relationships to each other than what would have otherwise
been possible, without it looking stupid as split screen
almost always does.
ei: the original thomas crown affair. haha although that was
a kinda cool movie too, it just looked like a 2 hour 1960's
johnny walker ad.

darius is actually a very lovely person but he has the
temper of eight rather big men. i meet him sometimes in
orinoco fsky threads for the usual rants, i guess this time
he shortened his style.

Seconds (1966)
Mean Streets (1973)

Both really great films you should see them. There's
probably more. Aronofsky is more or less trying to claim
this technique as his, and I find it disgusting. Boo to
him.

And sorry for being rude earlier. I have voiced my opinion
about the film many times, and I got a little annoyed at the
Daddy Day Care comment, but now you're nice :(

good film, altho i like pi better. got to admit, his work is
does have a bit of style over substance, but when the style
is that good...

last time i watched requiem it was 5 in the morning and i
was coming down off coke. fucking awful idea.

PS. JESSIE! where the fuck did you come from?

I watched Pi upon its video release many phases of
the moon ago. I enjoyed the first half and then it got
mind-numbingly dull and messy.

When I watched Requiem For A Dream I did not know it
was directed by the same man. My god, it was AWFUL.
Such a contrived piece of teenage angst: Like listening to
10 copies of Pink Floyd The Wall out of sync on giant
speakers whilst being situated in a dark corner of a bedroom
cutting "4 REAL" into the skin of my arms and writing poetry
backwards which makes no sense because it's so damnably
profound.

positive way.

i like stressing movies, but this one not. drama drama. pi
was boring and empty as well. camera and edititing okay, not
too shabby, but Aronofski writes/directs for 18 year olds.
