those tunes are fucking awesome
this new album has just one really good tune called "steam engenius".
everything else is fucking bland and shite. johnny marr doesn't do much either. these guys need to do drugs again.

i can't exactly put my finger on why i don't like either this or good news, but the reasons are similar.
maybe they are like over produced, or they're putting too much emphasis on his voice, or the music is trying too hard to be pop-like... i dunno, none of those are exactly the right reasons but sort of close.
anyhow, after a listen or two i'm not feeling it. which totally sucks since i love just about everything moon + antarctica and before.

Just heard it leaked this morning! But, I won't download it. Modest Mouse is worth buying in my opinion.

yeah m&a and previous albums were fucking fantastic. they've made some of my absolute favorite music, really talented guys. then came good news and they turned sour. now it's too clichéd and "indie" in a really bad way. bloodless, no balls.

Please. Where are all the haters. Modest mouse is serious lowest common denominator psuedo art rock rubbish.
Well, I vented. Thats all I am going to say.

i like this and the last album more than their older stuff. probably because it puts me in a happier place than their 'we're all gonna die so why bother' musics.
i always enjoy the constant road trip references throughout their body of work. sometimes they remind me of a musical jack kerouac.

Bit of both actually. Ropey.

huh? their older stuff was wittier, ballsier, looser, more fucking awesome, more creative, less indie staple crap etc.

eh, i wouldn't go so far as that. they tended to rehash the same material over and over again. i can see where you're coming from, though. but i can't think of any 'indie staple crap' albums that sound like good news or this new one. they have their own style.

all right, i'm listening to the moon & antarctica again for the first time in years and it's definitely their best album. all of their albums before it all sound the same, though. and yes i'm including the lonesome crowded west with that opinion.

i like this new one more than 'good news' (which wasn't bad). seems like a return to a heavier sound, but keeping the best aspects of the last album. some parts have a retro 80s sound, which i enjoy. i think we're going to see more of that in the years to come.

what happened to the way they used to kinda push isaac's voice back a little and layer it two or three times over itself? cause that was awesome.
