OK, most Britons don't want their country to be seen as the USA's lapdog in terms of politics, but almost every other aspect of American culture seems to insinuate itself into our own. Instead of discriminating between good or bad, a lot of people here blindly follow anything that is popular in the US. Hence we watch piss-poor television programs like Friends, Dawson's Creek and Ally McBeal; eat at McDonald's; shop at "the" Gap. It also makes me sick when people greet me with the word "Hey." I have made a point of kicking the offending person in the teeth when this happens. |
