says on wikipedia a musician is anyone who performs, composes or conducts music, so technically anyone can be a musician that makes sounds? but lately(well reasonably) people have coined the termed 'artist' for people who don't quite cut it as musicians. it seems musician is used for people who are perceived as very creative and whose output is generally and consistently of very high quality, but whos to judge whats good or not? many people who are not classically trained in music can still create complex and musically coherent pieces, and they can be called musicians for their music, not because of their actual education in music theory, likewise someone who IS classically trained can still make shitty music, but i guess he's a "real musician?" (albeit uncreative one) if anyone can clear this up id appreciate it. |

Books (or sites!) of words are only useful for concrete things. Abstractions can only be made by experience. The words "artist" or "musician" are pointless as a differentiation between people: we are all artists and musicians. |
