Can you play an instrument/read music/have any background in music?
If yes, try Fruityloops, if no try acid or ejay.
As to getting the music in your head down, good luck, it'll probably be at least 18 months or so before you can do that with any sort of accuracy, but keep at it. ;)

Make some random crap with this and post it, pleeeaaassse.
The first thing I ever used was a 4-track tape recorder and a toy keyboard with a borrowed guitar multi-effects unit when I was 13. Then music 2000 on the Playstation.

Stefano, download Fruityloops Studio. Go to a torrent site (either OINK or DEMONOID) and download a bunch of VSTs (effects and virtual synths) & a bunch of percussion samples.
Put all VSTs into a folder called "VST", and in Fruityloops (FL), set your VST folder. Put all your sample subfolders into a main folder called "SAMPLES", and set that as a directory within FL.

Resist the temptation to make wacky tunes inspired by computer games, anime and a dearth of originality.

I would agree with marlowe on adding samples, vsts in this way, but I think the basic program is enough to start with. No need to overwhelm yourself till you're happy sequencing (actually writing notes/drum lines) in it. Then you can start worrying about getting a nicer sound than the floops defaults.
