Hyperthyroidism in cats

I know this is off topic again but my cat just got
diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and he has to take two pills
a day. I was wondering if anyone had the same experience and
knew a really good way to get the cat to take the
pills--they are bitter tasting. They have to get teh exact
dose so its hard to just crush them in with the food cos
they do leave that sometimes

aren't you just supposed to put it in its mouth and hold the
mouth shut?

sure, my cat chokes really badly somtimes with that or it
can go down their windpipe. It's one way definitley but the
cat just hates it so much

hold the cat close to you, force open its mouth while trying
to keep it somewhat still, drop the pill into the back of
its throat, shut mouth and stroke its throat from the
outside, rubbing only up -> down as to make it swallow the
pill

sounds mean, but its the quickest way to do it. i hope at
least because thats how i do it.

yeah i know the feeling. really sorry for you too. also,
you're not getting radioactive iodine pills from the vet,
are you? pretty hardcore treatment, radiating the thyroid
glands to hell.

fuck yeah of course, you're right

forget about the iodine crap, common sense (and wikipedia)
dictates that cats pissing radioactive urine aren't
something you want in your neighbourhood.
