I wasn't going to do any more music. I shouldn't
have done any more music. As the board's least loved amateur
musician I should've gave it a rest, said to myself "Leave
it to the professionals"

But no, something inside... so strong, demands to come out,
in a flurry of REVERB, DELAY, FREE VSTs and a desire to
shred my crappy stereos speakers so I have an excuse to buy
a new one.

For that reason there is ¡Oye Ape!

haha I really like it. I like the bass line, the beats and
higher pitched sounds. The more stuff you post the better as
far as I'm concerned.

it's like a really angry monkey hating everything but
realizing that sweet music can come from it he just vibes
out because he is in essence just like us

enh... lotta cool sounds, not much point. kinda just went
in a circle without ever going anywhere, although the sounds
were cool/trippy. maybe i need to give it another listen or
two or three or four maybe even five or six but definately
not seven.

The thing that goes from the start is pretty annoying. It
gets better when it dies down a bit.. much better.. even
though I still object to the drums.

Hmm, first attempt at downloading led to a three second mp3!
Downloading again in the hope of getting a little bit more.

The drums are a tool. A tool to dissuade anyone from ever
making music again. This is their function, this is the
song's function. It's what it does, it's all it does!

hahaha, well your tool is broken: I'm currently working on
another track with an increasing amount of layered piano
lines.. so far it's got two and a planned one (just needs
recording), but I think I'll end up with four or more.

Very nice! Reminded me of early Autechre being brutalised. I
liked the full use of the stereo spectrum too, and a
lovely elastic acid bassline. Top notch!

Sounds cool, Drunken, remember to spam once it's finished. I
once wrote an Elegy in D minor for two pianos for a music
class. As I remember, the second piano mainly mimicked the
first, except with a delay of a semi-quaver and played more
softly. :D

I have to agree with the D45 on this one.. I liked it. It's
quite a beating, but the sounds are juicy enough to make it
pleasurable (that sounds gross). I see it as a natural
outgrowth of what you've been doing really .. It has those
plodding tribal rhythms from your Greatest Ape stuff, but in
your more recent sound it seems.. and much more frantic.
Muy rico, gracias!

I will! This one is a bit less "classical" in a way.. it's
more.. I don't know what to call it.. cabaret? It's like a
really bad thelonious monk impression performed as a comical
act at a circus.

It's also got drums that aren't piano.

I'm also currently recording a voice under the influence of
alcohol, and I forbid myself to alter or remove it when the

This was an interesting song. It didn't impress me in terms
of, "oh that melody was really nice" or "that percussion was
complicated but well executed and very interesting". It DID
impress me though in terms of "whoa shit that is a lot of
bass" and "wow so evil". Though there's no particular part I
can point to that I really like, it changed very often thus
keeping my interest, and I had a nice feeling when it ended.
Good work man.

it says mangos to me, i'm getting a hint of cinnamon,
bluebells, maybe even a whiff of stale lingering farts ...
and an after taste of semen.

That lingering semeny taste is the psychosomatic effect of
the full blown eargasm that the final ejaculation of the
track involuntarily invokes.

Obara's and sirmailbox's comments are very welcome, if a
little reckless, as they've only encouraged me to do more
when of course I should really be discouraged at
every opportunity.

It is a mess, but if you listen to it about 100 times
like I have (just imagine...), it does make sense.

That is if wantonly debased bass based brutality and willing
the defacement of all musical values can indeed be said to
make sense.

I've listened to it on repeat for quite awhile, mainly
because I was too lazy to change it and it meshes back to
the beginning.

Cheers ears. Well I worked on elements for it for quite a
while, well, in my terms, that's maybe picking at bits over
a week or so, but it wasn't gelling, it wasn't coming
together, until Friday night, feeling a bit reckless and
eager to get shot of the bugger, like one might feel the
need to unburden themselves in the lavatory and move on, I
added the BOOM BOOMS and hey, or oye, the track suddenly
said to me "Dan, you can fucking well stop mollycoddling me
now, I'm big enough to face the world on my own." So I
showed it the door and off it ran.

I listened to oye ape. I always wanted to record a blender
in a washing machine with both turned then add different
pitches of a wav file all over it, but now that I know the
results are terrible I don't have to.
Entertainment value: -4
Quality of musical composition: -5
Comedy value: -3
The title spits this 'ape' term at me again. As for 'oye
ape' vs. 'grinning ape', I think they both suck. Looking at
them both in one sentence is like watching a 'got milk'
commercial with picture in a picture of a mcdonalds
commercial. I don't think apes would even like this music,
let alone be very pleased that their good name was used for
such filth.

Thanks for your kind comments. Sadly the only track I'd say
you couldn't remix is "A brackish spirit" as I don't think
that one should even be up there, that's actually a track
for the forthcoming follow up album by The Phantom Carriage (if
you like that style of dark electronica and dark folk lyrics
you can download the first album free here, they
used to have a really good flash site but now it's just a
list of mp3s), which has a core of great artists and a few
other contributors, I just did the dark ambient music for
that one track on it there whilst the vocals and some extra
arranging were done by Phantom Carriage. So it's not exactly
just mine.

The main vocal talent is a brilliant artist called
Mike Seed and you can check out some of his
"glorious pop songs and to what you'd call very dark
folk
" over on Spoilt Victorian Child Records

I agree with Drunken in that the beginning drums are a bit
irritating, but I suspect you don't need to be told that.
Overall, there are some really cool sounds in this track and
I like the glitchy high-frequency beat that evolves from
them.
