I know I have done threads for VSnares, AFX and AE with this title, but I am still interested in seeing what people like best out of ALL idm music. What is your favorite IDM album, ever? (Sorry for those who don't like the term IDM, but that's just what seems to be used for this music!) Mine would be: Autechre, Tri Repetae or Aphex Twin RDJ album. Can't choose! :-) |

I just listened to Ochre-midummernice dream, and that record is extremely "IDM". Hard to belive that it was released in 2004, because it sounds like Ochre threw together some mid-90 releases from Warped, and mixed them in a blender. Very outdated sound, but Ochre has nice melodic skills, so I like it anyway. |

I've never heard Ochre but I like the sound of blended early Warp so I will seek it out. |

Early Warp has some good music, like SAW1 and SAW2, but I think they were best from 1997 onwards, because of Chiastic Slide and Come to Daddy. |

ochre's ability with melody composition is unparalleled in the genre, imo... Drink Malk, Ourcade, Mithrax (ochre rmx) just to name a few - absolute genius. |

aphex is not idm,autechre is not idm, squarepusher is not idm, BoC is not idm, 'idm' specifically refers to artists who say their music is IDM. i.e.: richard devine, phoenecia, etc. aphex is more like funk than "idm", autechre are more like herbie hancock or than they are like otto von schirach..etc etc. squarepusher is more like miles davis or johnny coltrane... etc. |

i rememeber the first time i heard autechre. my friend had made me a mixtape, most of the tracks were by doubting thomas. but he had somehow come across autechre and put on there vose in, pir, acroyear2, rae and laughing qrter. so yeah the first time i heard these songs it was like being blasted full of fresh air and having the connections between my ears and brain rewired. electronic music hasnt hit me that hard since those few days. |

IDM is better defined with single songs as opposed to a single release. Not too many of the releases are well rounded. Song wise I'd say: LFO- Butterslut AE: V-proc Aphex Twin: Windowlicker (and its remixes), Mangle11 Squarepusher: Amstrong Feck4 Well SP had Big Loada.. that was well rounded. A guy told me once that Dillinger Escape Plan was IDM. I laughed in his fucking face I did. And then downloaded a few songs to check them out once more. |
