Anthony Keidis likes Venetian Snares

Just an interesting tidbit (I found it interesting anyway).
I was reading the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine, and
apparently Anthony Keidis of Red Hot Chilli Peppers fame
picked Venetian Snares as his favorite artist right now. He
also mentioned Squarepusher.

The most recent issue of Rolling Stone, January 25, 2007, on
page 17 quotes Red Hot Chile Peppers' Anthony Kiedis:

"Best New Artist: Venetian Snares. It's dramatically
hardcore
electronic music out of Canada, sort of in the vein of
Squarepusher --really different and cutting edge. On his
latest record there's this
classical influence and these ultra-fast rhythms that manage
to sound beautiful."

I assume he's talking about Rossz.

i wouldn't know. i wouldn't want to either. but does that
matter? from what i've heard their music is just really
lacking in substance. radio fodder innit.

i actually like a few tunes from californication.

rhcp is like that band i never bother listening to an album
by but i'm not really insulted if i hear them on the radio
or anything.

californication is a great album, but i can understand
hating it, since a lot of the songs were wrecked due to djs
overplaying them on the radio.

still, his reaction illustrated my point - that he doesn't
know much of their music, apart from, at best, their last 3
albums, or at worst, the songs that are played on the radio.

whilst you can argue, fairly, that my opinion isnt really
informed, i don't see why i should have to listen to their
entire back catalogue just to draw a conclusion. would you
listen to the entire cheeky girls' output just to decide you
don't like them? or what if i said i really rated the chilli
peppers but had only heard a few of their songs. would you
be so quick to label and berate? i'd still technically be
ignorant of their work.

i understand the importance of keeping an open mind, but
you have to draw the line somewhere.

yeah, you know me, i probably would be "so quick to berate"
if you came waltzing in here saying "yea RHCP are gods, that
song scar tissue is an all time fave" or something similar.

as for the rest, the chilis haven't always had the one sound
throughout their musical career. i'd just advise you listen
to their other stuff before drawing a conclusion.

Hmm, I'm not sure if they have generally advanced that much
from their Blood Sugar Sex Magick days: just more polished &
sophisticated.

Sir Psycho Sexy is a great song.

terribly boring.
