Cylob

is it just me or is Cylob one of the most continually
consistently bizarre and unusual electronic musicians making
tunes these days? His music has a pop sensibility but it
always has very unusual dsp and synthesizer work. At one
point in time, somewhere around the Diof 97 era i considered
Cylob a follower/imitator of the afx sound, but now to be
perfectly honest his latest music sounds more fresh than the
most recent output by rdj. Music System Volume 1 & 2,
Spider Report and the most recent live set are all excellent
albums.

albums? are you joyrex or something

and i think his last great thing was lobster tracks, but i
think he's got more shite tracks than good ones, as cylob
atleast - the kinesthesia stuff is grand though

lobster tracks is probably my favorite, that one track off
it (forgot the name) where the entire melody is derived from
the stuttering/re triggering of the snare drum is one of my
favorite tracks of all time.

I think his newest is fantastic. You dont like? Yes he
does have a lot of miss tracks but his overall sound i find
to be more creative and daring than many of his predecessors
sound today.

I think you mean "Smash Up The Pram".
Cylobotnia is well underrated check it out.

I don't like cylobs output from the last couple of years
that much. Fact

i dont like cylob at all really only his old industrial
stuff is really wicked
the stuff he makes now seems a bit uninspired and all

I loved all old Cylob but the latest stuff does seem a bit
flat in comparison. Maybe it's like David Bowie and Iggy
Pop, where Bowie was so jealous of Iggy that he fed him
loads of drugs and kept him locked away so he wouldn't make
any more music whilst Bowie stole his act. Perhaps Rich,
recognising 'Lobs potential greatness, has him in his
basement and says to him "OH yeah, that sounds really good,
release that *snigger*" ... whilst feeding him lots of
drugs.

yeah, it's that or maybe he just releases records because
he's friends with Richard not because his music is
particularly good. Which I sometimes think for more rephlex
acts.

CMS1&2 are absolutely brilliant.

He should do more "pop" tracks with vocals, 'Living in the
1980s' is brilliant

finally someone praises cms1&2! i dont know where all the
hate comes from. Imo cylob surpassed almost everybody on
Rephlex long ago. he seems to be the only one concerned
about true braindance on the entire label actually. there is
nothing cerebral braindancey, or creative about the
overwhelming majority of the current rephlex catalog.
That recent live set recording that was posted on xltronic
is the only electronic thing i've heard since 'Hello
Everything' that has been on constant repeat in my car and
at home.

I find a lot of the Rephlex stuff bizarrely uninspiring
these days, too. There's bound to be plenty of stuff you
don't like on a label, but their recent output just seems to
be really lazy, like they're taking the piss out of their
poor, helpless record buyers. Oh, life!
