can slow and speed up playback, to my knowledge they dont
make any that do this now, + mic port, speaker... its super.
recorded a chris clark set on it once, sounded awful, taped
over it

ive got the latest 30 gb ipod video, whichever gen that is.

i cream all over it daily. beats carrying around two huge cd
cases everywhere i go by leaps and bounds.

i wish i still had enough tapes to use a classic walkman
tho. i remember buying one myself when i was 10 and OMG IT
HAD A DIGITAL RADIO BUILT RIGHT IN!!!

those were the days, when intergration was still happening
and we didnt have mp3 player/cell phone/pda/camera/video
recorder/electric razor/taser/kitchen sink all in one .3 oz,
handheld unit.

maybe i'm just a douche, but your post reminded me that
often i do feel nostalgic for more primitive technology,
when it was humble and functional, when technology was built
to last not to be disposable. for example my ipod is a
blessing and a curse in that i've got all my music but its
destroyed the final shreds of my already short attention
span. i chop and change tracks and struggle to stay tuned
and appricate it. as with computer games. and the internet
turns losers into losers with a cause. and the irony of
mobile phones as a communication device isolate us. blah
blah blah.

I still use the walkman but I hardly ever make new tapes,
which was the real joy of it. still buy cassettes in charity
shops, you get all the fun of browsing and purchasing except
it costs nuffink

one of these. had it over a year and nothing's ever gone
wrong with it. i wouldn't be caught dead with an iPoo.

Sandisk Sansa 4GB, iPod Nano clone. Some quirks in the
interface, but I'm satisfied with it.

I don't understand the cassette / walkman nostalgy. The
clumsy tapes, the crappy sound. I certainly don't miss
them.

And brand fanatisism and antagonism is equally stupid, iPod
/ anti-iPod, console loyalty etc. Just buy whatever suits
your preferences and shut up about it.

I dont think the sound quality is really unpleasant, and a
lot of music sounds very different somehow. I like the
effect anyway. I do have an ipod too and I use them both.

Part of it is just the charm of a physical tape, you can
become quite attached to a good cassette. and also a
homemade tape takes longer to make than it does to listen
to, which makes for a very different sort of compilation to
dragging things onto a playlist.

i just recently recieved the latest little clip-on ipod 1gb
shuffle as a christmas gift from my mom. i just think it's
insanely excessive for a 30gb not too mention overly
expensive as well but i wanted to go light on my mom's
wallet anyway. besides the battery life lasts long enough
to listen to the entire playlist in full even when it's
loaded to the max. and when it needs charging i can simply
drag and drop a new playlist in it, then boom! i'm done,
out the door, and on the go again.

i mostly use it for the car. i just keep the cassete
adapter in the tape deck and plug it in instead of carying
giant books of cds to and fro. that way i never have to
worry about my car getting broke into and all my cds stolen
or even burning copies of all my cds to lug around in case
they ever do get stolen. and then when i get to wherever i
was going i just unplug clip on and i got instant tunes or
at least don't have to stress about theft.
