I love a slice of jazz. Coltrane, Monk, Adderley, Davis are
probably the ones I listen to the most.

I like tech jazz fusion and drum'n'bass styled jazz a lot.
Regular "jazz" is good for late night drives when you're
ready to drift to sleep (not if you are the one driving of
course!).

maybe i need to better clarify about that link there in my
post. just like my music appreciation thread only i'm not
enrolled in this one. i don't seem to grasp the concept of
the written english language that well, please, you must
forgive me. school has fried my brain, i need to take a
break from this place.

Course Description

Explore America's only indigenous art form from Blues to New
Age. A study of the elements of jazz tracing the development
and evolution of the styles and structures of jazz from its
beginning to the present time.

jazz is brilliant!!! i need it once in a while. I see loads
of things in common between jazz & electro. Both can go all
over the place

I think it's better to avoid the whole random issue again.
But I do like to point however, that it doesn't look like it
could arouse CeriJC into making a huge reply. I expect a
"Genuine LOL" at most. ...I mean, AT MOST.

I can't really get into Jazz, it's just not my thing. I like
a little bit Miles Davis, and Time Out by Dave Brubeck is
nice, but can't say I'm a big fan!

A lot of african jazz is just cheesy, thoughtless drivel.

Not specificallt, cos I don't listen to it. Post links to
examples of your favorite african jazz, and I'll either
change my mind, or explain what I don't like about it...

Listening to him now - it's alright.
Any specific album you recommend?

He's got a tune called ebola too :-)

soundtrack.

ethiopiques 4 is his i think..though you could check out the
whole series i suppose. lots of stuff like that inthere.

it's not classic jazz, but i like sort of stoned feel to
it..makes me all warm inside :)

The preview stuff on his site is pretty much laid back
funk/acid jazz. I listen to a lot of that stuff. I find it
enjoyable, but it can be very generic (like most stuff, I
suppose). You ever listen to Bill Evans?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2007-01-22 06:01 [#02035851]

not really..don't like piano in jazz much. i either like
that laid back thing, or free jazz - ayler, coleman..and
coltrane, davis sort of thing. also, some scandinavian stuff
- like the thing for example.

offline ebolawasher from Dublin (Ireland) on 2007-01-22 06:12 [#02035856]

I'm a piano player, so piano trios are my favorite jazz
medium. I don't know how you can like coltrane and davis
without liking piano in jazz - that's absurd. Most of that
music wouldn't work without piano.

davis, stanko, komeda.

but also: supersilent, deathprod, arve henriksen,
badalamenti.

well, there's plenty of piano in astatque's stuff as well. i
don't know evans and i saw he plays piano so i reckoned it's
all about piano..

Yeah, man. It's all about melody, harmony and rhythm. You
can do that on a piano.

I listen to jazz quite often, particular to artists mixing
jazz with more electronica, like Nils Petter Molvær,
Wibutee, Bugge Wesseltoft/NCOJ etc (Jazzland, Rune
Grammafon, Smalltown Supersound etc).
Fusion Jazz is also quite cool (Weather report, herbert
hancock, mahavishnu orchester, old chick corea etc).

More tradional jazz/trios, like keith jarreth, charles
mingus, charlie haden, urban connection etc, is also very
nice (if the mood is right...)
