so ages ago i ran across this incredible site which had
thousands of user uploaded packs of recorded bits from every
synth, drum machine, toy, or anything else old that made a
sound imaginable.

i got some great 808, old skool casio and speak and spell
and well as arcade sounds from there, but lost my harddrive
so they are no more.

anybody know which site im talking about? or point me to
something similar? im completely starting afresh and need
something more than the flstudio default sample bank
(eeeewww) to play with.

There was a site, something or other sun, but I think the
chap behind it took the site downline and worked with zero-g
or some other sample manufacturer to make it into the
"Nostalgia" VST.

Hollow Sun per chance? I think they took the samples down
because of copyright or server space or something :(

speaking of drummachines, i'm looking for one that has
really great compressed hihats and cymbals, hardfloor and
rob acid uses it a lot

i know this isnt much to go by, but if anyone suspects they
know which one i mean i'd be more than happy to accept the
response

hollowsun.com doesn't do free downloads anymore because it
was costing him too much. You can buy them quite cheaply on
CDROM and they are of excellent quality.
There is a vintage pack with what were the freebys from the
site. I've got most of the free ones from the site and use
them on my S5000 a hell of a lot.
The cdroms come with a translator program to let them work
on loads of different soft/hardware samplers too.
most of the new stuff seems to be for some new alesis box. I
think he has fallen out with akai, he used to work for them.
anyway, for about the price of a modern cdrom game you can
pick one of his CDs up, so very cheap and quality is very
good. the looping is infinite with no glitches and well
multisampled.
