I've seen a similar thing before (some bits of it, but not
the part with the map/him claiming to be president). It is
funny-as, though.

you know as much as I think this is funny I can't believe
this is 100% real. I'm hoping they just edited a small
percentage of people together.

What a douche. That kind of thing is only funny if
conducted by other Americans. He should go pick on his own
country.

i dont see what the point of this kind of thing is

they showcase a dozen idiots out of nearly 250 million
people who could potentially be smart, or idiots, and, i
have no idea why i am even typing this post...

this is like if the KKK made a video wanting to prove that
blacks and mexicans were inferior -- theyd do the same
thing. find a few and allow you to conclude that the rest
are the same. i think this guy should eat a bunch of valium
and learn to get rated doing something wholesome.

he's not even funny, his little antic makes him look like a
square, like, "oh i got the 1-up on you.i know something you
dont know".

sascha baron cohen is much better at it and he's so funnny
it's almost devastating

if you watch that douchebags video on "free food" you can
see how transparents his whole comedy act is, none of the
people believe he's actually serving them dog meat, thats
why theyre laughing, theyre like, "Oh! haha. you were making
a joke. a rated comedian would probably have convinced me."

yes it made me laugh, yes it made me cry and yes it made me
want to fight the guy. but i just took it within context.
i realized all the same points cygnus brought up. i'm just
not falling for it's cheap ploy because it's merely
semantics.

"i'm not falling: to enter as if unaware for
it's cheap: gained or done with little effort
ploy: a tactic intended to embarrass or frustrate
an opponent
because it's merely: being nothing
more than
semantics: the language used (as in
advertising or political propaganda) to achieve a desired
effect on an audience especially through the use of words
with novel or dual meanings

oh, so that's what you meant by semantics.

semantics is the meaning of language.

the word you were after is "rhetoric".

back to school with you.

offline EVOL from a long time ago on 2007-01-15 13:28 [#02032823]
Points: 4921 Status: Lurker | Followup to redrum: #02032809

there's more than one definition. and no, "rhetoric" would
not have achieved my desired objective. but funny you
should mention it, that is indeed where i'm going right now
anyways!

I've never seen semantics used that way. Usually when
someone says "it's merely semantics" or something like it,
they mean that someone is turning an argument from what it
really is about over to the specific words one of the
participants is using and their "true" meanings. Like here,
for instance, if this argument over the word semantics
continues, one of you could effectively stop it and prompt a
return to the "original" argument by saying "enough with the
semantics already, let's get back to what we were talking
about!"

In this case you'd get a special bonus, in that the word
semantics would refer both to the state of the argument and
the word whose semantics you're disagreeing about.

As Bogala said, this is pretty much a Leno spinoff. I didn't
laugh either, mainly because of the aforementioned reason.

Did the interviewer make any effort to ask university
students these questions?
