for some reason , probably some adjustment I didnt do correctly , when the record gets to the end of a side (near to the centre of the vinyl, the cartridge seems to jump from line to line, as if it wasnt able to be clser to the center... any idea of what is happening? |

anti skate settings? this controls how much force is used to pull the tonearm away from the middle. The natural tendancy is for it to move towards the middle, so anti skate pulls it back. Maybe this is set too high? It might help if you said: what cartdridge? what weight are you using? what anti skate? what height? I use Shure M44Gs at 0.75g, height 2 and anti skate 2. I wind the weight up to 2.5 for scratching. |

0.55g!!! not enough weight. think they work over 2-5g. if you don't use enough weight they will skip becuase there is not enough pressure to keep the needle in the groove. More weight gives better tracking, but wears out records quicker. Do you know how to set it up properly? might be of help. |

2g is a little on the light side for these cartridges, so maybe just a bit more pressure is needed. If it is not already, move the cartridge as far forward on the headshell as possible and ensure it is straight. Assuming you have the counter weight set correctly, I would suggest playing around with the anti skate dial. Also perhaps try it at 5g pressure to see if it is capable of not skipping at all. Maybe it is a problem with the vinyl? Does it happen with all records? Are you sure your weight is set correctly? When you reduce it to 0g the tonearm should float nice and level in mid air. I take it you are turning the metal thing and not just the numbers on the counter weight? |

Oh you're right! I've got that model :D and it works finey. Oh I've got Ortofon concorde pro as a cartridge with 2.0g weight. |

yes!!! listening to my analords finally dave: thanks for all your advece I will let you know the thing is: I set the balance to 0 then I set the tracking force to 2 (2-5) but I cannot really put it much more than that cos the balance reaches the end of its way... so far it works fine with all records now, except the plaid/lfo/clark ep |

I don't really understand what you just said. You need to get the tonearm to "float" in mid air, then move only the numbers on the counter weight to zero. i.e. it is floating so there is no pressure downwards. Now twist the metal weight and the numbers together to set the pressure/tracking force/weight. Wind it up to something like 3. If you keep turning it more the numbers go back to zero, but this doesn't mean zero. it is actually 4!!! When you get to 3, for every number you rotate to, increase, so it goes: 0g(floating) 1g 2g 3g 0g (4g) 1g (5g) etc. Don't use more than 5g ever! Leave the height at about 1. That is on the big ring at the base of the gimball assembly for the tonearm. Try playing around with the anti skate to get the best results at the problem points on those records. Also if the needles are new, they will need a few days to "break in" so they will skip more at first, so maybe you just need to use more pressure for a week or so? Enjoy the analords. |

Now I try to twist the metal weight and the numbers together to set the pressure/tracking force/weight. to something like 3. the thing is that after I get to 2.5, I cannot turn anymore, the movility is over for some reason the weight is in the top of its moving possibilities... I could reach to 3 though by turning the metal weight in the other direction (against clock) |

if you mean that you wind it so far that it won't go any further, you should have enough pressure for a stanton 500. The instructions with the turntable should explain it as well and has pictures which probably make more sense than my words... However... If you want even more pressure, you can take the whole weight off and put it back on the other way, so the numbers face backwards. You will need to find the zero point again, but you should be able to use more pressure in this position, since you can get the metal weight closer to the fulcrum. The key thing to remember is the less weight, the better for the vinyl, but it is more likely to skip. I don't think the technics manual has this "trick" in it! |
