hm. i finally got around to watching the matrix trilogy again, (something ive wanted to do for awhile).
ANYWAY. there is one thing i didn't quite understand. in the matrix, neos real name was thomas anderson, with his hacker alias being neo. neo is just a hacker nickname he uses for his computer life, and yet, this is the name he goes by when set free into the real world. perhaps theres more to it that i dont understand (is it because neo is an anagram of 'one' and wachowski bros thought they were cool/smart?).
if the matrix were real, and i was set free into the real world, would everyone be going about calling me pigster? what a bunch of stupid wankers..
(perhaps im just confused and delirious from an overdose of too much cgi and long pointless irrelevant rants and convosations between silly actors standing infront of a blue screen. i apologize)

i think the point is that Thomas Anderson is a name given to him by the machines. Neo is a name he has chosen for himself. In the real world people prefer to go by the names they have given themselves and not those given to them by their opressors.
or something.

its sort of to do with the rejecting the matrix, going by a name you chose rather than one you received in the matrix, that whole theme of 'choice' that they smear in your face in the second one. And also because hacking the matrix and hacking on computers is supposed to have some similarities in technique and ideology, which is why he was good at both.
I just saw in a bargain bookshop a book about the matrix which claimed that assuming the matrix exists and you are in it, it could explain how to begin removing yourself and becoming the one.
yeah the matrix gets really horribly shit after the first one

both indeksical and dannn_ have good points. thank you!
yeah, the first matrix, i havent seen in a while, and i noticed alot more, and understood more (though, most of it ive already read on the internet but it was cool seeing it on film and everything).
and yes, the matrix DID get horrible after the first one. i was well aware of this, but no matter what, it's always (just a little bit) surprise how crap it got. at least it still had a good story and even more things to think about (geeks to dig into and write interesting when bored theories and post them on the internet).
one thought after putting myself through so much matrix in such short span of time? why oh why didnt i take the BLUE pill. LOL JK GUYS!

i think he subconsciencely knew thomas anderson wasn't his real name because it was given to him by the matrix. and neo was always his real name, or more real anyway

It's all a huge ripoff of "The Invisibles" by Grant Morrison.
Better read the comic book. There's more in ten pages of the comic than in the whole Matrix trilogy.
And I love the movies. The three of them.

The wachowski bros were givin' copies to the ppl who worked on the film. Best comic ever. BEST.

i thought the whole point of the first matrix film was basically:
"Here's a possible way that superheros/supervillains can exist - being merely enhanced programs in a world of ordinary programs, where suopervillains are malign programs."
the very end of the film where neo is walkin down the street, ready to download any enhancement he wants, suggested to me and it wa a damn good idea.
Then we get all this zion/architect shit and what i though it was all about turns into psuedo philosophical pap-arama.

No, it turns from a basic virtual-reality plot to an explanation that includes the theory of chaos and the fractal representation of the real.
Level 1: The matrix Level 2: The green binary code neo sees when awakes Level 3: The fractal images he sees when goes deeper in the substructure of it all
And Trinity n' Niobe are hot hot hot as plus to the saga!

YOU'RE LUCKY THERES NO SUCH RULE AS DOUBLE RECOMMENDATION, WHICH RESOLVES US BACK TO OUR PREVIOUS NON-RECOMMENDED STATE.
i'll see if any of my friends know of it, if not i know what shops should have it (theres one place that'll definitely have it, thoughtit's always pricey as fuck).
also, saying the matrix sequels brought in the philosophical part (with the original matrix being just a super hero action movie) is a stupid stupid claim. stop claiming such stupid stupid claims!

no matter what they were about, the second two were badly done, some awful scenes, cringe inducing scripts, CGI mess, completely dissolved any interest in the original characters and then added a bunch of newer more boring ones as well...

Thomas as in doubting thomas. He didn't believe.
Anderson = Son of Man
Neo = New
Neo is an anagram. He died in room 101 <--- Mega reference.

I can't stop thinking how great the second movie would be if the animated features from Animatrix, aka The Second Renaissance 1 and 2, would introduce the movie.
And of course, Neo's not suppose to be some messiah-super-man, and the Architect should've gone out the window, and skipped the overly "philosophical" hocus-pocus, but they could've retained the anomaly-stuff.
Damn, it's almost annoying how much potential this series, could've had, instead ending up being a preachy pop-corn-flick.
