should we keep the 24/7 radio or abandon?

it's something that you don't always listen to, but comes in
handy when you want to hear XLNT XLTONIK MUSACK

so that's one vote for it to stay 24/7

two votes, I agree with Mr Vlari, its been nice when I want
to hear random music

yeah, why not?

it can be useful when you're stuck in college and don't have
any music to listen to.

Well, it depends, is it just one person's playlist on 24/7,
REGARDLESS of how many tracks they've got, or is it more
people. I'd say have other people playing, but not do the
big thing of "Oooh, on Friday it's new member Mamsoid
playing.. oh, no, no the connection's buffering, forget
about it". Just play, and if someone else wants to play and
you're in the mood let them, and if anyone gives a shit they
can make a thread about it.

But I'd say have it, play the classic sets and that, howmuch
bandwidth are you set to lose? You've got to speculate to
accumulate. Get listeners, get revenue.. expand, Xltronic
empire... umm.. you know.

keep it, one day ill put tracks unknown to you all

i like the sets recently, so more of that, more live stuff
by members, makes it more personal and diverse in a way...
well it could, anyway! dog_belch is on the right track here,
get some of the classic sets in rotation etc., it'll all be
swell. keep the radio pulsating!

I don't even listen to it when autechre plays. You could get
more listeners if you played something good like this on
it:

LAZY_TITLE

That shit would be so tight with some evil front line
assembly lyrics instead.

i think you should keep it.

offline i_x_ten from arsemuncher on 2007-01-04 01:43 [#02026196]

i think it should be kept for special occasions personally.
keeps it special. unless there could be regular hosted shows
but that surely would be really high maintanence with
bandwith and finding/keeping hosts/dj's & maintaining a
listener base.

its a great idea and i do support it but if its just an
automated list of tracks i think most people will just
choose from their own music collection, no?

offline goDel from ɐpʎǝx (Seychelles) on 2007-01-04 02:05 [#02026202]

well, call me an idiot, but what are the costs of keeping
the 24/7? are there any benefits? one thing seems sure:
there's only a small audience actually listening (like 5 on
average? perhaps less). if the costs are close to 0 with
these amounts of listeners, why not keep it. there are some
people happy with it.
personally, i agree with i_x_ten. i'd rather listen to my
own collection and save the xlt radio for special occasions.

i agree with dog_belch's point on not making big deal about
people hosting the radio. when it comes to members hosting
the radio, it should say who's hosting and such, but that
should be it. could work nicely i think.

offline Dannn_ from United Kingdom on 2007-01-04 04:12 [#02026224]
Points: 7877 Status: Lurker

i think with such a small number of listeners there isnt
that much point in keeping it on 24/7, I think a few hours a
day would suffice, and more xlt members mixes or playlists
would be good too

i also agree with dannn_'s post.

offline tridenti from Milano (Italy) on 2007-01-04 06:41 [#02026277]

I listen to it quite often..

Points: 10225 Status: Lurker | Followup to tridenti: #02026277

Well, that's settled. Tridenti pays for keeping the 24/7
on-air. He'll also deliver the music. And best of all, he'll
be one of the few listeners. Houston, I think we have a
self-maintaining half-closed system here. Perhaps we should
declare Tridenti to be Zilty's first micro-economy.

Can I be your financial consultant?

You need to do a recruitment drive. WHY NOT DO, right, a
monthly competition, a draw, where each person donating in
that month gets entered into a monthly PRIZE DRAW and you
can give away some old bloody records, dust gathering
promos, Autechre's email address, etc

I'd say drop the 24/7 playing, just occasionally.
Members taking control of the radio more often would be cool
+ I'd like to hear the older radioshows on repeat.

I concur. Maybe a weekly members show would be a good idea,
though i'm guessing this is quite problematic for phobiazero
to manage otherwise I guess he'd have done it sooner. Still,
i'd much rather listen to a nice weekly xlt members mix than
a constant 24/7 playlist stream and I assume it'd work out
cheaper too.
