break-in attempt at home

We came home from shopping to find 2 young males skulking
around in the bushes near our fence and when we entered our
condo, we noticed that the screens were pried from the
windows and there were pry marks and a broken latch on our
sliding door. of course by then the 2 guys were long gone,
but we filed a police report and bought new hardware for our
door, as well as some wooden dowels to jam in the doors and
windows.

Luckily they didn't get in, but we can't help but feel a
little vulnerable for our safety and that our our daughter.

don't know why i'm sharing. just decided to share. for
like, my own sanity or some shit.

Try not to be to worried about it. It is human nature to
feel threatened by it, just natural survival instinct
kicking in. Most thieves are nothing more than
opportunists, they probably left yours and went and did some
other poor buggers house instead. As they never managed to
gain entry into your house it is unlikely they will return
(oddly enough that is a statistically proven fact).

They probably just wanted to put some flowers on your table
or something to surprise you.

i think you are probably right. the police officer that
took our statements said they were probably after quick easy
grabs like laptops, cameras etc. nothing substantial. so
like you say, since getting in proved not easy, i can't see
why they'd come back. plus they got caught in the act
really. even though we couldn't really give a good
description of them, we actually talked to them face to
face, told them to leave the premises. that can't make them
feel to confident about returning.

but mostly it makes me mad that now we have that anxiety.

You should get a dog help to protect your home at all times,
punk kids wont mess around if they open the door and a
rottweiler goes for their throat

That's pretty terrifying. My ex-girlfriend's dad was tired
one day so, after coming home, left his wallet on the
kitchen table, and took a nap upstairs for two hours. Upon
awaking, the door was broken, and all money gone! A laptop
near by was not stolen.

It's close to what ecna and the police say; these people are
just make swift, shallow combings of easy pickings.

As it stands, the result wasn't severe enough to warrant a
serious police investigation, and therefore they are off the
hook, essentially..

I hate everything

Stealing has historically been one of the main ways to
acquire wealth.

you could get an alarm system, it helped my folks relax
after they got some break-ins. Also my dad now sleeps with
my baseball bat under the bed

An alarm is the best thing you could do. And a hammer too.

I had someone in my house stealing my stereo. I walked into
the room just as they exited the window. That was scary

Sorry to hear about this. As Ecnad says, the fact they
didn't get in means it's unlikely they'll be back. Even so,
an alarm and getting a police officer out to look at the
security of your house (checking you have the right sort of
locks etc.) might help put your mind at rest.

(Ceri, here is a 'thoughest' response for you :D)

We did have a couple police officers out. they took
photographs and tried to get fingerprints, but because of
the rain, their fingerprinting stuff just turns to mud.

I also think that, since my wife and i confronted them face
to face in the parking lot and asked them to leave the
property, we probably put some of the fear into them. as
far as they know, we got a good look at their faces. even
though i really couldn't remember much about their
appearance. funny how unreliable memory is. I guess if we
had realized that they were trying to break in when we saw
them, we would have paid more attention to their appearance.
but people are frequently lurking around that area, usually
just smoking crack or getting blowjobs from crack-whores.

we are looking into getting some kind of alarm system. we
don't have a large condo, so it won't be too costly. but
being on the ground floor in our neighborhood, it would
bring some peace of mind.

It's funny though, our neighborhood isn't exactly "the
hood." the property value averages $500k+ per house and the
condos are around 250K+. But it is a neighborhood in
conversion, encroaching on the ghetto, and very near a few
sketchy nightclubs. So we get some nefarious run off.

I'd have robbed your fucking house myself!

Combo, friend, totally fuck off for that comment.

evolume: im glad all three of you are well, that would be on
my nerves/mind, way to much. Get out of the house, carry on
regular activities and such, time will heal the wounds.

ecnad: if your ever in the seattle,wa area, give me a buzz,
you and i can both open evolume's door, walk through the
living room while they are all watching "everybody loves
raymond" or something, take what we want, and lock the door
on our way out....

we have a security system installed now so if you come in
during everybody loves raymond the siren will make it really
hard to hear Ray's delightful style of family friendly
comedy.

It reminds me of that other shitty show 'coach'. You know
where there's like this coach and he has all these fag
players that hang around, and he sometimes has lame parties
where he serves chips and does a lot of talking. Both shows
have this one large idiot fag. That's the main reason it
reminds me of everyone loves raymond, which has a deceitful
title by the way, because of that large low talking idiot
fag. Large low voiced idiot fags arene't funny like the
coache's star player and raymonds large fag brother. Also
that large guy on murphy brown. I like man balls.

almost exaclty a year ago to date i had my car stolen from
my driveway in the middle of the night while i slept not
more than 20 feet away in my bedroom. that was in las vegas
though so you got shitheads that do that type of shit
everywhere all the time. vegas as an area is quite small,
it only takes maybe 40 minutes to drive from one end of the
desert to the other completely through town. so the ghetto
is at least just a 20 minute drive form any upper class
neigborhoods situated around the city.

well, they have to get pissed otherwise it wouldn't make for
exciting reality tv. then advertisers would pull out and
the network wouldn't be able to make money off you cuz you
wouldn't want to watch some boring realistic television
program now would you.
