New Autechre Soon?

I can feel it... something in the air. The Shadow in the
East grows darker, and men now have a mind of metal and
steel. And now whispers on the wind bring hope, hope that
the last heir to the throne of Gondor lives, and is ready to
reclaim what was lost long ago.

Would they have really wasted an hour loading tracks into
winamp if they still had an album to mix?

One Ring To Rule Them All

Back to Gantz Graf for a little bit... I did not get enough
enough Dial or Cap.Iv flavor personally.

its likely

confield - 01
draft - 03
untilted - 05
- 07 ??

also, as untilted was on the horizon they did radio
broadcasts...

anyways it doesnt matter the duration of time it takes for
it to come out - what matter is- it comes out, and, it's
autechre...

I would love to hear some electro from autechre.

There. I said it. Its neat listening to things being slammed
around discordiantly for 70 minutes, but I want to hear
something more rhythmic and focused.

Autechre are great, but I really couldn't get into either
draft or untilted. Don't get me wrong, I love confield as
much as the next guy, and LP5 is still absolutely
incredible. But something about the last two full lengths
didn't cut it for me.

In truth, I always prefered the Gescom stuff anyway. It
seems like they're not under any pressure to constantly
innovate under this guise and they can just get on with what
they do best - make incredible rhythms with the most
unlikely of sounds.

As for what their new album will sound like... who knows. I
look forward to listening to it though!

I don't like untilted neither (except some bits, including
the whole sublimit and iera), but draft was quite great
wasn't it? IV VV IV VV VIII is one of their finest tracks
imo. And Reniform pulse is awesome as well. Anyway I agree
that Confield and LP5 were better.

When are the new fakes coming?

I dunno, I must admit I find a lot of their newer stuff a
bit hard to like. Of course there are songs in there that
are real nice, but it's about half and half with me for
their last couple cds. I hope they do some more melodic
stuff next.

I think that is my main gripe post-gantz_graf actually. With
the albums before that, I could pretty much enjoy all of the
tracks without having feeling I need to skip (m)any. With
Draft I liked about 3 of the tracks, but couldn't really get
into the others. With Untilted, I honestly can't even
remember any of them - and i've listened to it quite a few
times. It's quite interesting as I can definately get into
it whilst listening to the album, but as soon as it's over I
just completely forget it. Make of that what you will.

All the albums have melody. It just got harder and harder
to decipher as such.. makes the listener work a little
harder for it. I kinda like that aspect of it personally.

A fair portion of Draft and Untilted really doesn't have any
melodic content to decipher, imo.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion as to what to classify as
'melody.' I've often enjoyed Autechre's ability to twist
sound effects and percussion in odd ways so that their
pitches could be intepreted as melody.. kind of blurring the
lines between traditional song elements. Alot of the
frenetic rhythms in LP5 especially seem to have that effect.

I only post here under the assumption that the more posts
this thread has, the sooner the next album will be released.
My mother told me I've got the mind of a magician. And as
usual she is right.

Draft and Untilted are full of melody, basically every
section of every song has it's own discernable melody.
Granted it might not be an in your face piano or flute
solo... it could just be a shard of ambience slightly
changing pitch on a loop (first 3 minutes of LCC for
instance) . They still USE it as a melody, and techincally
it has the specs for a melody.. that makes it a melody,
right?

As for Untilted and Draft... I liked both a lot... Untilted
was a real grower, it took me awhile to get past the general
"cheesiness" that felt I was hearing in the sounds
themselves. But eventually (as I said in another thread) I
came to realize that it's basically a Cartoon... Cartoon
Autechre, I don't know how to put it another way.

That said, there was an obvious progression in Autechre's
music (I see it as sort of an Advanced Intelligence they let
creep into their music.. like the sounds themselves were
taking on decision making characteristics)... each album
took it a little further out of control until the whole
thing finally exploaded with Confield. That was the pinnacle
of their success imo. Gantz Graf was utterly amazing (and I
don't even really like the title song, just Dial and Cap.IV)
as well but it dosent really count as a full album. And
since then we've had Draft and Untilted which have been
really good... but they havent advanced Autechre further
really I have to say. I don't even know where they can go at
this point anymore, Confield shook my entire world of music
and as lame as that sounds, I've never really listend to
music the same since Confield "clicked" for me.

IMO Untilted is their best album.
I find Draft really tricky but Confield pretty easy for some
reason.
LP5 is great.

I am hoping for the new album to be a bit like what they've
done live, even though I doubt this will happen.

one of the things I like about Autechre is how 'different'
they sound with each release.. I don't think they sound
anything like 'Tri Repetae' on 'Confield', and I don't think
'Untilted' sounds like 'Confield'.. etc
