Just finished watching "Everything Is Illuminated" with
Elijah Wood. It's about war, remembering, and being kind.
Ummm....it's making me get teary-eyed. :[

Brief Encounter is the saddest movie I ever saw.

Sad is in, horribly made or sad as in touching? If it's the
second of the two, I'll check it out this weekend! I love
when someone can make a movie that really sends a message to
the viewer.

Sad as in heartbreaking. It exudes heartbreak. Written by
the maestro, Noel Coward, starring great character-actor
Trevor Howard (who also features in the immense The Third
Man).

You should watch some of Douglas Sirk's melodramas, like
All That Heaven Allows.

I thought Everything Is Illuminated was superb. Excellently
paced and packed a hefty emotional punch while still being
at point hilarious. The younger guide (the one obsessed with
american hip-hop culture) was genius and the little
character touches (like Woods OCD thing of collecting loads
of stuff and putting it in baggies) all helped towards an
extremely well written and pleasingly shot film. 7/10.

film, and yes, pretty sad too.

yes it's Thurman Merman :)

i got teary-eyed a few times. that film had been hanging
around my front room for ages. i finally got it out as i
thought it was just what i needed (a silly no brainer of a
comedy with good acting) and ended up nearly as messed-up as
when i last saw Jacob's Ladder.

I downloaded it a while back; certainly wasn't expecting it
to be as it was... Billy Bob Thornton did a sterling turn.
It's a real good movie... actually, I honestly think his
performance should have been Oscar nominated.

he seemed to really understand that role, a part of him
maybe and a hint as to why he chose it. his delivery was
spot on.

anyone ever been to a film that the projectionist didn't
align right and you end up seeing the boom mics and cameras
and other such movie making gear in the periphery? I have
and it went from drama to comedy at that moment.

never seen anything like it. I was emotionally hurt by it.

My mum recommended the book to me, then bought it for me:
one of the best autobiographies I've ever had the good
fortune to read... also, not a sad movie but one of the
saddest diaries I've ever read is The Diaries of Kenneth
Williams
.

Watership and just checked IMDB to see that there was a
cartoon series based on it. Weak.
