They're great, aren't they? Making their voices heard, telling the world what the next generation thinks. Saying "Hey, we're not pricks, at all. We're not kids that need education and to just shut the fuck up until we know what we're talking about". The young today, what with global media, now have balanced, informed views, and what they might lack in experience, they make up for with their intelligent, political insight. They can certainly teach us old ones a thing or two.

I'd have probably appreciated later on in life being told not to do a nazi salute over a dictator laying in state, but in your extreme liberal view I guess I should've been offered that opportunity to royally fuck up on a global scale.

He was a great man. Overthrew the Chiliean Marxist government and then allegedly tortured those who opposed him. However the Nazi salute has no relevance to either his life or his alleged actions...something I 'think' dan_belch was referring to.

They're doing a fucking nazi salute over the dead body of a recently fucking deceased, polemical dictator, the action of which has then been photographed and reproduced in a national newspaper and globally on the Internet. Fuck me, don't dare go into a 24 paragraph diatribe about the fallibility of perception and interpretation.

As Ecnad says, you know what they mean, but it's ... wrong, it's got nothing to do with Pinochet, far from, regardless of what he did. But they've got a funny view of WWII / Nazis here anyway, must be the influence of all the fucking Nazis that hot footed it down here when the game was up. I'm sure Hitler would've rofld at the latino neonazis strutting around, quite distinct from his Arayan vision.

it's a protest in a way.. since he wasn't a nazi, people doing a nazi salute to him meaning it bad, meaning he was like a nazi and that a nazi was a bad thing would be a protest.
however, now that you've actually said what they're doing
I have actually heard something about people becoming more extreme lately, there are more nazis in germany again and just generally more extremists on any side of anything. In this case, I guess there just isn't enough awareness of past errors made by other people.. hitlers errors weren't big enough to reach everyone.. or maybe people are forgetting?
the world needs more hippies or something

But this why I said, in the first place, before kids start spouting "Politics", they should learn something from history first. Because just picking up a mish mash of their dad's lazy right wing (political not economical) prejudice that occassionally drunkenly lapses into "Hitler was right" isn't the best way to go about things.

well, there is indeed some truth to that.. making informed choices > making uninformed choices.
Part of the problem doesn't necessarily have to be just that they don't bother with finding out stuff, but rather that education or information on it isn't as strong as it should be. We here in Europe still have a sort of proximity to the problem, so it's hard to grow up without knowing about the errors made. Over there it could be more of an obscure issue what, exactly, happened. However, some of the older people still remember it and don't feel they need to educate the young ones about it because they assume they grow up knowing about it like they did. I hope it won't, but right now it looks like the same shit is starting to happen here.. I heard some nazi party in germany (of all places) is gaining votes, but up until now, most of the "nazis" around here are just glorified racists...

Yeah but theres just something a little off about a kid telling you a really forward and direct opinion that you obviously know he never would have consciously thought unless it was crammed into his head by his dad or school teacher. It sort of has a way of making you feel like you're dealing with an adopted clone of a figurehead, and if anything, you'de rather converse about the matter with that figurehead, if you even wanted to in the first place.

I have to agree with your sentiment here, at least in the USA. One of my biggest pet peeves is the inexplicably ubiquitous encouragement of friends, family, authority figures, celebrities.. you name it.. to vote because it's my 'civic duty,' and because I should 'take part in the democratic system.'
It's nonsense.. nothing but twisted political rhetoric used to influence a very gullable target. This makes me think 'Sorry I'm not living up to the better, more 'responsible' end of your optimistic false binary, but it is *not* my duty to partake in this government system simply for its own sake.'
'Vote or die', 'rock the vote', 'doesn't matter who you vote for, just vote!'
Um, no. When MTV tells me to vote, it's essentially a (badly) masked liberal plea, when my church/school etc tells me to vote, it's a presumptuos conservative plea. It has nothing to do with individuality, democracy, or truth at all. This is not even to mention that as a 'young person' I have no vested interest in the nation, as I am not a significant property owner, and have had no time to accumulate anything I'd be worried about getting tax breaks on. On non-economic matters, I'm cripplingly agnostic and have no noteworthy convictions about gay marriage, death penalty, or abortion (aside from mild biases resulting from upbringing and gut reaction). I'm completely ill informed because of the skewed privatized news media and lack of real answers on any given issue, and I have not done my research on the candidates both for this reason and because I am too lazy at times.. and, even if I had done my research, my vote would probably be determined more by physical appearance and peer pressure.
The real sacrifice, the real 'responsible' course of action, is to have the decency to realize when and when not to vote.
