This is supposed to be based on an actual radio conversation
between a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier (U.S.S. Abraham
Lincoln) and Canadian authorities off the coast of
Newfoundland in October, 1995. (The radio conversation was
released by the Chief of Naval Operations on 10/10/95
authorized by the Freedom of Information Act.)

Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the
South to avoid collision.

Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to
the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15
degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say
again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE
SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET.
WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND
NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR
COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH--I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE
DEGREES NORTH--OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO
ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

I don't buy that.

That's obviously silly pro-canadian propaganda.

Of course I'm an American.

Hey,
I'm not saying all of my americans are smarter than all of
your canadians, but come on...

As a whole, we all know that America is the smartest country
in the galaxy...

..then "this is a lighthouse. you call."
im pretty sure tha american battle group would know there is
land over there..

its a joke, people...

My superior is Canadian and she claims all the time that
americans are a sick, perverted nation and that canadians
are somehow better. (although she does admit that everything
that happens in america, transfers to canada shortly
after...) I'm trying to convince her that for us, Europians,
they are all one and the same... No disrespect to any of
you, our transatlantic friends. As I've already written on
some thread or another, i hate americans and Canadians as
much as i hate my own nation. BTW, that conversation is
obviously a joke. But it's funny...

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-14 09:43 [#00125602]

My only impression of Canadians is the mountie Frasier from
Due South. Canadians don't make much of an impact on the
world. Americans are bang in yo face however

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-03-14 09:47 [#00125605]

Well, to me they are the same... I mean NBA and NHL cover
Canada too and they're both in NATO and so on... But in this
South park movie (a lot of fun for me), there seemed to be a
lot of joking about American - Canadian differences

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-14 09:55 [#00125616]

Aren't the Canadians supposed to be really polite to the
Americans "brashness"?

Just to let everyone know that 'navy vs. litehouse' was not
a joke. It really did happen. It's funny because it's
true. It's not a stupid american's thing but rather a
"stupid millitary" thing.

well, yeah, I remember during that NATO action against
Yugoslavia, this f18 pilot has been assigned to bomb this
Serbian military convoy. He reaches the target and can see
for himself that this is a convoy of albanian elderly people
and kids, trying to escape from war zone, with old trucks
and agricultural vehicles. So, he's like, are you guys sure,
there seems to be a mistake here, these people are
civillians. And his people just confirm that this is the
target, regardless of what he sees with his eyes. And he
goes BOOM, some Air-To-Ground missiles are fired and 80 kids
and old people are roasted to fucking death. Just due to
relying on fucking technology and system. And those were the
people they came here to protect in the first place.

I don't know whether protecting the people of Yugoslavia was
NATO's objective. The bastards

Well, they said they came here to protect Albanians from
Serbs... Not that anyone believes it, mind ya, but all the
same it is somehow hilarious (and frightening, too) what
they did to those people...
