Miles Davis

hi : )

i've been listening to Miles Davis pretty often lately... i
have Kind of Blue and Bitches Brew, which are
both brillant (i'm even tempted to say "perfect") and which
i love, and the soundtrack for Ascenceur pour
l'échafaud
, which has some really good tracks on it but
is in my opinion flawed by its "structure" (often having two
or three takes of the same track one after the other).

i've been meaning to get another album by him; maybe
Agharta, Live-Evil or Big Fun, but his
discography is so huge..!

do you have any particular advice/what are your favourite
albums by him? (i saw that Black Magus was pretty
popular here, sounding almost like idm music...)

oh and if you like that and Bitches Brew you have to hear
the first Mahavishnu Orchestra album, The Inner Mounting Flame. It is
ecstasy.

Both Mahavishnu and Miles are great! Great stuff, indeed!

I bought Kind of Blue to my father, haven't heard his
opinion on it yet, though.

Fleetmouse, you wouldn't perhaps know of
other"jazz-fusion"-musicians one ought to look for? Actually
I was going to write a topic on the matter in due time. :)

(... Damn, I was about to ask what you people think of a
certain song, but I can't find neither the songtitle, nor
the album, and amazon.com is of no help either.)

I have the same two albums you have, along with lots of
downloads. I love both of them, although for some reason
"Kind of Blue" isn't quite as enjoyable for me as it used to
be.

I could've sworn I had at least two davis albums, but I
can't find them anywhere

I've seen quite a few vinyls at the local store, though, so
this is a problem I can easily fix.

goDel: you're welcome : )

fleetmouse: In A Silent Way? that would be
interesting, i think i've seen it for a pretty cheap
price... i'll check it out.

while bitches brew may be the end all be all masterpiece
from that era of miles' playing, i kind of prefer the jack
johnson album....there's also a newer box set that has all
the shows from what eventually became the live evil
album...the sets are killer...that early seventies miles era
is one of the greatest bits of music of all time

Let me recommend "Nefertiti", a classic hard-bop sound from
the second Miles quintet.

"On the corner" is a good one for some mutant funk action
