What's this new Korg microX thingy like. Anyone know?

If you are looking at affordable smaller synthesizers, check
out the novation Xio. I played with it for a bit, and was
impressed with the depth of sound. The only thing I would
think of changing would be the knobs (they were too firm for
my liking). For under $400 retail, you really could do
worse.

Hey heres a related question:

has anyone got/used/know about/built a x0xb0x, is it
recommended?

The MicroX just looks fun. That's all I want. Something
fun to play around with and I've always liked the Korg
sound.

Yeah, but you are going to be pretty much limited to the
sounds that are on board. Its pretty much a trimmed down
triton (which you can get for the same price used).

x0xb0xes are supposed to rock. I have a password to order
one, but I don't have the cash :(

What Taxidermist said. The inability to make your own sounds
will piss you off sooner rather than later. You'll be
happier with a Microkorg if you like the Korg sound.

x0xb0xes... so this is like a TB 303?
anything like the future retro revolution?

Its a clone of the tb303, only its a kid. Its pretty close
to the original, only it has midi and usb support.

It also ups the sex factor of the tb303 design.

x0xb0x

I don't know what I was thinking with that only its a kid
comment. Crazy.

if i don't like how novation vsti sounds, won't i like the
synths either?

Yeah me too... it says to place the order within a week
which means im having to make up my mind... if I spend my
money on this I will feel guilty, but on the other hand I'll
have a 303 with midi and usb support, which would probably
help me get over it.

if the xio synth has the the same hardware as the x-station
then i'll highly recommend it.

it maybe lacks a bit of depth and raw bass sound compared to
moogs but it has one fantastic thing - fm synthesis. and it
rocks.

dave smith evolver...under $500...and way more exciting than
a triton. the xoxbox is rad too...the korg electribes are
pretty sick boxes too. there was that yamaha dx200 or
whatever fm synth that i've heard good things about too.
fender chroma polaris...analog for under $300. casio makes
some nice digital synths too. lots of cheap gear for way
under $500, you just gotta know where to look....

haha, seems there are three of us on this round of
socksboxes. i'm getting paid tomorrow, so there chances are
high that i'm going to solder soon

i have to figure out a clever way of boxing it, i'm not
going to get the standard casing for it

The Desktop evolver sounds amazing, but I wouldn't recommend
that interface to anybody looking for something fun. Better
to have the keyboard version with those nicer knobs and
better layout.

What do you have in your studio?

the x0xb0x seems to be the closest clone to the tb303 ever
made. It's ofcourse still programmable with the internal
sexuencer with the box synced up through midi, or you can
midi trigger the notes. It's an hardware ABL really

It's also a MIDI/CV converter (the x0xb0x)

Bloody hell, I didn't realise that. I am going to have to
buy one now, I think. V. good value for money when you
consider it's only £180 to start with.
