(luckily previous thread was in cache)

yeah

that's the pretentious title

the other one is Politifullmektig

I was just doodling, in a way, so it's kind of "loose" at
times, but I kind of like the looseness.. Everything is
played, but without clicktrack or any sort of thing for
keeping in beat. It's also way way longer than this, I just
had to cut at places, cut out the best stuff or whatever.

I'm also writing the sheet music for it, and it'd take
three
piano players on three pianos to play it. I'd love to hear
it performed with three different pianos, so if anyone has
a
piano and can play easy two-handed stuff (it is an
etude, after all), let me know. Of course, I can record all
the voices once more myself (with a click), I'd just like
to
hear it recorded with three different pianos by three
different players. And if you feel you're able to take
liberties with any sheet music given to you and actually
pull it off, that's even better! The music should be
interpreted, not played back.

Of course, I'd like to hear some opinions on it as well if
anyone's got any.

also

this is a sort of self-jam, and you always get a sort of
sense of the development in things like that, and I'd love
to hear it if anyone else have jammed with themselves...
something spontaneous and just featuring yourself over
yourself..?

Downloading. I remember writing an Elegy for Two Pianos in
D
minor once when I did Music at College. On a related note.

the three pianos clash quite a bit to my ears. i need to
listen to it again but on first impressions the piano
playing the lowest range is just not tuned in. perhaps a
slight mimickry of the midrange piano but an octave or two
lower would be good? i dunno. having said that i really
liked the plinkyness of the last third although still some
really garish clashes. that just my ears though sorry!

also yes i have jammed 'with myself' most of my tracks are
just that. it is much easier than jamming with other
people.

it's all on the same thing, and this is on a synth patch,
not a real piano.. I wish I had a real piano, but I'd have
to carry it up seven floors after I'd spent a million money
on it. If it doesn't sound tuned, that's probably just
dissonance, and not "real" detunedness.

Unless I'm reading you wrong.. I'll cover all bases:
They're
supposed to overlap in range. That's why it requires three
pianos, and not just three pianists on one piano.

as i said before the three pianos seem to clash to my ear. i
have to listen again (which i will do in a short while) but
it seems the lower piano segment is just not in the same key
as the middle one causing jarring chords. perhaps this is
your intention i do not know :) some people want to create
jarring noises, sparse or empty compositions etc. i give
spam the benefit of the doubt it is just my ears sorry!
having said that the plinkyness in the last third is really
nice but again clashing notes sorry i will stop being a
sourpuss about spam!

I'm going to listen to it in headphones

but I'm pretty sure it isn't detuned.. was just recording
and recording, and have cut the parts together, and I didn't
change anything on the settings, neither tuning, nor
anything else, so...

what's your speaker setup?

hmm

that's weird

it's even a penthatone (sp?) scale which I kept pretty
strictly within...

hahaha, that could explain a bit

low frequencies rarely come out right on headphones if they
come out at all...

yes yes

same key.

though I'm not sure which

I guess it's a C Major, but not a "proper" C Major
penthatone, but rather a C Major in which I only use five of
the keys.

Hey, DM the "politfullmektig" is really nice.

I was about to say there is a cut-sound in the song, but you
mentioned cutting out parts yourself, so ...

It's a nice little tune, and the looseness gives it a
spontaneous flow.

It'd be interesting to hear a second-melody-part, sort of
like a ... uh, what's it called now ...?

Refräng? Vad heter refräng på engelska? :D

thanks!

refräng = refrain or chorus

as far as I know both words also have multiple meanings,
like you have "this song has a good refrain," but at the
same time you can say "I'd rather refrain from doing this"
and similar things for chorus, but chorus has more meanings
I think...

For the most part, a pleasing berceuse. It sounds
pretty Enoesque for the most part - if you placed the three
pianos at different distances from the listener, threw in a
little more - subtle - instrumentation, I'd be interested in
listening to that version also. Nice, though; pleasing.

Reading through the thread, I believe it's the Pentatonic
scale to which you're referring - the easiest way to
determine the tone-row for the pentatonic is to use the
black keys and transpose from there to whichever Key you're
working in. So, the pentatonic scale for C would be:

C-D-F-G-A

thanks! I don't know what you mean about the subtle
instrumentation, but.. I was kind of planning on
re-recording it with three different pianos. I know of two
that I can go and play it on, so I just need to do that and
then find a third one somewhere.

aren't there many different pentatonic scales? I'm using C D
E G A for this one.

Instrumentation: I mean, instruments other than pianos, but
used in a subtle manner so as not to stick out... I was
really thinking of Eno's On Land as a template when
listening, so you could listen to that for ideas about
instrumentation.

The Pentatonic Scale: I've no idea if they are 'other'
pentatonic scales, but I was taught that the pentatonic
scale was the black keys on a piano.

I think pentatone only means that it uses five of the keys
in an octave. Of course, the black keys are only five per
octave, so it's a good starting point, but I think you can
use any five. The blues scale is a pentatone, and I can't
really remember what it's really supposed to be, but
if you play (up) C E G A Bb (down) A G E C, you get that
"classic" rock and roll/blues thing...

but yeah, I could probably do other instruments but the idea
was to make a piece for three pianos.

quiet winter days where everything is still and calm and
snow falls softly beyond the treeline. :]

Very mellow, very enjoyable. It reminds me of Philip Glass
in a very good mood. The looseness is what I like most about
it, makes it sound very authentic and not mechanical, like
most of my music does. :)
