Coca Cola Christmas ads

ok, just to have this in the clear

this is not

"aaaaihatecapitalisunitedstatesofcocacola"

but

the Coca Cola company have.. more money than most other
companies. Why, then, are they still using those lame
commercials? "Then the trucks came over the hill" says the
grandfather before he's run over by his fireplace.

Have they done any research and figured that these
commercials actually increase sales? Is that it? I'd
like to know.

Emotional selling points. The joy of recognition and
nostalgia. They send the same disney show over and over
again every x-mas right?

It's extremely thought out. End of discussion.

people talk about them. a lot of people have said things
like 'i know christmas is here when I see those coca cola
adverts'

I deliberately avoid coca cola during christmas in protest
against these adverts, in the vain hope that my little bit
of defiance will impact the sales in some small yet
significant way.

I also never visit the bank of scotland or buy any loreal
products.

Well, youre a bright young fella. Most people aren't, and
enjoy this. Well maybe not enjoy it, but they fail to
reflect on it, and simply let the COCA COLA mind control
schemes sip into their tiny minds.

That some norwegian philosophy student thinks they are
annoying won't change their minds.

I feel sorry for the people who "fall" for these
commercials

I feel sorry for people who fall for any commercial
when it isn't one that says "ok, this is what our product
does. ta-da, move on" (there are no commercials like that).

I love commercials. I love the thought of how precisely you
can manupulate people with words, visuals and sound.

I bet you once liked a commercial that was tailor suited for
someone like you. Levi's mr. oizo (flat eric) commercials by
Quentin Dupieux. Brilliant. It doesnt even matter if you
bought levis pants after that. Theyre branded. As in cow
branding, branding their name into your brain. Levi's Levi's
Levi's Levi's.

I love commercials.

There are certain good commercials, yes, but they rarely
influence me to buy anything either way

the marketing tricks I tend to fall for are those where they
put stuff where the queue goes at the store, and other than
that, if I'm getting something there are more than one
producers making, like milk or something, I usually go for
the one with the most products "on display." Other than that
it's habit, so if my mom used to buy something when I was
little, I get the same brand. That's mostly foods.

I've never owned a pair of levi's.

Buying what your mother bought/buys is also a mechanism
advertising is very much aware of. Another so called
"emotional selling point". Thats why they rarely make
drastic changes in the design of certian products, and ZERO
changes to some products (mostly older).

Being just slightly aware of the mechanisms that get you to
buy shit, makes you more aware than like 90% of all
consumers. It's like being liberated from the the matrix,
you're out there seing the grim truth of it all.

Still, analyzing all these mechanisms really fascinate me
like nothing else. I wan't to be like Faust, and sell my
soul to the dark side of modern consumerism.

first off, that my mother may have been affected by
commercials doesn't matter: I haven't been affected
by them, I've been affected by her, but that doesn't work no
more; she isn't creating more habits for me and I wouldn't
call me buying those products a result of any commercial
influence.

I have a few years of learning about marketing tricks and
different rhetoric strategies behind me, so I know what they
do to make shit sell and how they try to put focus on things
in regular tv shows, etc, but most of the people I've talked
to are aware of these things, or at least they recognise
them when I mention them. I also don't mind falling for a
few of them, but commercials like these.. god damn, put some
pride into it!

You can usually tell when the company has had more control
over the creative part of the advertising campaign; it leads
to crap commercials.

Aren't Coca Cola responsible for what Santa Claus looks
like, dont they give Christmas flavour with their delicious
Rum & Cokes. I say Coca Cola can do the fuck they like at
this time of festive consumerism.

I'm certainly not saying that you buying products, because
your mom did it before, is a result of any commercial. I'm
just pointing out, that it's an interesting that you can
actually use the information, that every consumer is also a
child of a consumer, and thus have a special relation to
certain products to sell more!

BTW i do it myself. When i can not discern between som
products that look the same, ill go with something i know my
mother buys. Your mother might have put some good habbits in
you as well. Maybe the products you buy are superiour,
because your mother has gone trough a lot of trial and
error to find the best product.

The companies job is always gaining as much profit as
possible, but since a lot of people actually buy stuff
because of this mechanism, they have to be careful not to
lose any customers they already have (by changing to much
basically).

About making crappy commercials.
1:If you hate the commercial and the product, its very bad.

2:If you hate the product, but like the commercial it's bad
3:If you love the product , but hate the commercial it's...
well. Not that bad actually.
4: If you love the product and the commercial it's perfect
ofcourse.

The thing about 3 is, if you really despise a commercial,
but have a good relation with the product, the commercial
still works. I bet you can remember the commercials you hate
as good as the ones you hate. As you see the commercial you
think how much you hate it, but you might also think about
how you actually like the product (or even, if it's a
product you don't know you might go "hey, i hate this
commercial, but the product does look pretty good")

Thats my 2 cents about THAT.

Oh, and yeah, you CAN actually see if, as you say, "when the
company has had more control over the creative part of the
advertising campaign"

But still, i think some companies deliberately make annoying
commercials, simply because they can have a big effect.

i seem to be one of the very few persons here who rarely

I cant even imagine how people drink this everyday, despite

not to justify anything, but.. alcohol? whatever else people

Most of us choose our own poisons. Those that choose smoking
are cunts, though, 'cause they also choose other peoples'
poison at the same time.
