correlating poor driving and cell phones

How often do you notice someone driving terribly (they
almost hit a curb, ran a sign, swerved strangely, ignored a
pedestrian), take a closer look, and see that they are on a
cell phone?

I feel like it's about 70% of the time.

There have been excellent studies that driving performance
is poorer when yammering on a cell phone than when
intoxicated (as defined by legal blood-alcohol thresholds).

this was prompted by someone bumping into a telephone pole
while 3-point-turning in front of my apartment building. I
heard an awful racket and saw a cell phone upon
inspection..

luckily I'm on the second floor, so it was easy to chuck a
grenade through their window.

it's illegal to drive and talk on the cellphone over here

that's fucking EXCELLENT.

it should also be illegal to drive and argue with your
significant other. Every single driving error I've made in
the last year (I haven't had anything major, I mean things
like missing a turn, hitting TORBJORNs, etc), was in either
of these two cases.

and here.

also whilst on the subject of driving. it really winds me up
when people bitch and moan about speed cameras being
everywhere. and then getting fined when they get flashed.
hows this for a fucking brainwave; stay inside the speed
limit, and you dont get fined. fucking hell. yet they still
moan. like its their god given right to drive however the
fuck they want.

People moan about freedom in the US but when it comes to
surveillance the UK has more state imposed voyeuristic
tendencies per square bumhole than anywhere else.

somedays it feels like we're well on the way to becoming so.
like bitch_felch says we're the most watched nation, and
although crime statistics are down, perception and fear of
crime is going up fast.

HAHAAHA bitch_felch

yeah it seems pretty weird over there. For instance this
news about sticking some pattern recognition software on the
cameras in public places to detect anger or whatever in
their associated microphones.

I think the US is more creepy about figuring things out and
throwing random innocents in jail, but UK just brute force
spies on its people much more.

but of course, they have no idea what happened to that
ex-spy poisoned by russians. CAUSE FOR MORE DOMESTIC SPYING

Everytimes when one human being is exchanging currency for a
bag of torus shaped dough products, one human being receives
and transports said torus shaped dough products to one human
beings place of residence only to find out that these torus
shaped dough products existing in one human beings written
words of english are not pre sliced torus shaped dough
products, and that is not altruistic toward one human being.

that has to be the most fucking secret agent james bond cia
plot ever!

"WE'LL RADIATE HIM TO DEATH WITH NUCLEAR MATERIAL! HA!"

it's like they couldn't just shoot him, they gave him a slow
death and enough time to tell people who were doing it...
"now, bond, I will leave you in this room with this laser
shooting contraption that doesn't activate for another four
hours, so that you may think about what you've done, and not
escape at all. we won't lock the door, bye."

The human self that is now typing symbols with agreed
meaning on a lightening fast simpleton's character inputting
device desires the time ahead of the present to proceed in a
way where life initially composed by human beings make the
existence of humans subject to enforced disciplinary action.

Yes, cell phones whilst driving is one of the main causes of
accidents in the UK. Problem is, here at least, we've
largely replaced traffic cops with speed cameras. Also means
we have loads of uninsured, banned and drunk drivers on the
road. Still, that's in the government's interest anyway;
more accidents where people aren't injured (the vast
majority of accidents) = more damage to vehicles and hence
more work for garages (which of course are taxed).

Fun pop fact kids:

Almost 3 times more accidents are caused by pedestrians
behaving like lemmings than speeding. That's not just in
accidents involving pedestrians; that's overall. Which,
considering that the vast majority of accidents don't
involve pedestrians, gives some indication of how much speed
has to do with accidents: fuck all (3% for cars, 4% for
bikes, source: government's own figures).

Arguing with a passenger is meant to be one of the other
main causes of accidents, but it's very difficult to prove
as few people would admit to it, as it'd constitute "driving
without due care and attention" (a criminal offence here and
far more serious than the accident itself, usually).

I think the correlation is stronger between poor driving and
not having a y cromosome

Take more concentration into the driving rather than
talking, even if you do start mumbling on to the manager of
your workplace about random crap.
