They're batfuck-insane if they think they're going to sell
many at that price.

For me, people talking about the ps3 is about as relevant as
someone bringing up the Veyron when I mention I'm looking to
change my car.

By playing their hand first, the 360:
a) sold the most units last christmas due to being the only
one available
b) will sell the most again this christmas due to being
older and thus being able to lower the price

Do you HAVE to use motion sensing stuff in the wii and ps3-
Or can you just use a normal controller if you want.

wii also has a standard controller that looks like a cross
between a snes and gamecube pad. not sure about the ps3.
guess itll depend on the developer.

Yes, the Wii's "classic" controller is a great deal cheaper
too; £15 compared to the £45 for a movement detecting
controller (plus "Nunchuk")

I've not had a go on one yet, but a mate of a mate has had
one for months (Nintendo employee) and loves it. Apparently
it really is good for playing with non-gamers and when
you're half cut after a night out.

most games that are designed specifically for the Wii are
designed to be used with the remote, though - making use of
the remote and/or nunchuk mandatory.

then again - why buy a Wii if you don't want to make use of
the remote/nunchuk thing? the graphics aren't that much
better than on the Gamecube and as far as I know Nintendo
games have never really been about 'great graphics' anyway.

actually, they were pretty focused on graphics for a while,
but i think their whole focus shifted somewhere around the
n64 to gamecube era.

If I was in control of xbox 360 sales, I'd seriously
consider lowering the price to like 99.99 for christmas
only. That move would completely take over the market and
they'd probably more than make up for it as industry leader,
either through selling the vast majority of games or being
in control for future consoles (reverse compatibility with
360 that everyone would now already have). Christmas is when
they all get sold.

Got my Wii on release day. You actually don't need the
Classic Controller - GC Controllers work as well as a
substitute.

So far, Zelda and WiiSports are both amazing. Trauma Center
is excellent, and Red Steel is solid once you get a bit into
it.

Worth every penny.

We had 30,000 of the 400,000 PS3s coming stateside recalled.
And Sony sent a message to retailers saying that the systems
"will likely be defective."

360's were the same price last christmas. Parents of fat
kids buy them. I'm gonna get an xbox 360 soon though I
think. Out of all the reviews I saw on youtube for all the
new systems 360's were the best (and I'm very interested in
the live arcade or whatever where you can download more old
school games for a cheaper price. see youtube 'geometry
wars' review. looks cool)

the ps3 launch price isn't that outrageous considering the
prices of previous console launches.

also, it is a blu-ray player as well which is a brand new
technology.

i think ps3 will reign supreme as ps and ps2 did because of
all the good support they get from companies and the
capabilities of the machines they release.

nintendo is good and all but i feel they have been rehashing
the same old mario, zelda, metroid, etc franchises for too
long even if there are good games in there. nintendo
themselves seem to release the best games for their systems
and lose a lot of 3rd party support. at least playstation
gets new franchises from time to time from their better
publishers.

also, the wii looks interesting and all but the lack of much
graphical upgrade seems weak if you are releasing a new
console. i'm sure they could of added motion sensor
capabilities to the gamecube.

that said i still want to play the wii because i'm on the
fences now as to what i think of how it will play it.

xbox and microsoft can go suck a fatty. too many stanky FPS
for my taste.

I think Microsoft is going to take this gen. Obviously
they've gained ground, and I don't think Sony will catch up.
Halo 3 hasn't even hit yet. Gears of War is killer, Lost
Planet, Mass Effect, all the important PC games (Bioshock),
whether or not you like these games, these are heavy
hitters. Plus losing timed GTA exclusivity takes away
another of Sony's trump cards.

I'd rather Sony take it, but I don't see it happening.
They're making mistakes. Most recently, the absolutely
ridiculous revelation that the PS3 doesn't have a hardware
scaler. If they can't fix this with a firmware update,
then... uh, damn them.

I do think Sony will beat out Nintendo in the end, even with
this sluggish start. Aside from the control input, I don't
see anything being done on the Wii that you couldn't do on
the 360 or PS3. And this means that the Wii is going to get
some shitty third party support. All the good stuff is going
to make it onto the other consoles (GTA, games like Oblivion
and Assasin's Creed and Alan Wake and Bioshock and
whatever), and the Wii will get crap like Red Steel. PS3 and
360 get Resident Evil 5, which will surely blow minds, and
Wii is getting an afterthought side-story RE. That is not
good.

PS3 is stumbling out of the gates, but it will eventually
have a shitload of great exclusives, first and third party.
Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Famito Euda's new game, Devil May
Cry, etc. PS2 had a slow start too.

I'm still psyched to get the Wii, because I love Nintendo's
first party games, but that can only take them so far.
They'll still make the biggest profit of course, so it's no
sweat off their sacks.

improvement from ICO to Shadow was massive, and with a whole

err yeh... MS is doing HD-DVD.. and Sony is doing
blu-ray...

soooo... even if blu-ray becomes the major winner in the HD
wars.. you can get an external blu-ray drive for your
xbox360 (where-as your ps3 is a $600 paper weight worth
camping on concrete and getting shot over).

Honestly, I think the PS3 will be what I'm craving. I mean,
last gen I got an X-box because it was more powerful, so I
don't have any kind of brand loyalty.

But with a drastically increased storage medium, free online
gaming, plenty of games comin, and more power under the
hood, Im leaning towards a PS3

They do cost $1000 here in Australia though, so I might have
to wait a while...

eh, wasn't it so that the 360s internal drive was a dvd
driver or something and then the external one you can buy is
a hd-dvd drive?

I bet they'll make it so that you can't play blu ray on it
just to try to keep it from becoming popular.

offline edgey from New York (United States) on 2006-11-27 09:50 [#02008656]
Points: 408 Status: Regular

yeh they have no plans to support blu-ray (that'd just be
like saying sony has a superior product), so theyll hold
down the blu-ray.. but if sony pushes hard on blu-ray..
microsoft will just make an external drive.. and still take
the money.

The war is on HD-DVD vs Blu-ray.. not like we havent seen
this before.. beta/vhs .. dvd/laserdisc ..

You'll barely ever have to use the PS3 motion-control. In
fact, you can outright disable it in games like Tony Hawk
and Warhawk.

Good news for Silent Hill fans, SH5 was officially
announced. SH4 relatively sucked but hopefully the Resident
Evil renaissance will push Konami to try hard on this one.
