seemed short. I would like to discuss part of the ending
with someone who has seen it... so who has seen it?

I just saw this...

While it was ambitious, well acted, and features some of the
best cinematography I've ever seen...

I just couldn't help but be bored stiff by it. I'm not even
gonna pretend I understand the ending or any of it really...
it was quite incoherent (and not in a fun Lynchy way).

But yeah, the reviews seem to be split down the middle on
both sides. I really wanted to like it but it just wasnt
happenin'

It was pretty easy for me to understand.
less than Lynch more like a bizzar Ingmar Bergman
type of thing...

I'm just curious about the flowers in the end more so than
anything else.

SPOILER///SPOILER///SPOILER///SPOILER///
well not really but:

mainly I wonder if The flowers were meant to be cheesy from
being that Creo wrote in his ending to her love story or if
I was to take itt seriously...

I didn't get ANY of the symbolism in the movie.

I could spend hours going over my theories for every single
object and person in Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive and
what it's alternate meaning is...

But this one just went right over my head.

I guess from the preview I was expecting more of a "fantasy"
movie (I really could go for some more epic fantasy movies-
LOTR style) and what I got was a psuedo intellectual art
film... (thats also what I get for not reading any
reviews... as Frank Costanza says: I LIKE TO GO IN FRESH!)
it was good in its own way- but you really have to be in the
right mood for it.

saw it tonight, and gotta sat, i was kinda dissapointed by
it.

im a huge aaronsofsky fan, and have come to understand that
his films come with a bit of pretension and
over-the-top-ness, but this one went slightly too far for
me.

the cinematography was gorgeous, the sotry line intriguing,
but it just seemed to be a bit.... cheesey. also, if im not
mistaken, the movie was free of cgi (save for that one bit
in the end), which is quite impressive. (the psychedelic
backgrounds were created using a kaleidoscope).

**SPIZZOILER***

the way i took it was that the mideval part was the story
izzy wrote, while the future part was the final chapter
which creo wrote.

so yeah, i dont see why people seemto be so baffled by this
film, i found it far more conventional than most reviews i
had read lead me to believe.

I got it half right.

It wasnt really mind boggling by any means, It was just
really interesting and dealt with topics, themes and
storylines that hollywood doesnt really go for.

I thought he used microscopic photography of bacteria and
things of that nature to create the special FX.

My biggest complaint is that it was so short. I really would
have liked to see more of the conquistadors... I also like
that he used the guy from Pi the one who played the Russian
mathematician who plays Go.

I hope Aronofsky uses theories and myth in more films. I
loved Requiem for a Dream dont get me wrong. But Pi and the
Fountain interest me way more. I also like that he isn't
afraid to experiment with older styles of cinematography
instead of going overboard with extremely cheesy CGI effects
that become dated and look like shit 5 years down the line.

I haven't seen it, and I don't know if I ever will. However,
I am positive it is the worst film and the most spectacular
failure of all time.

I must say that it provokes absolutely wonderful reviews,
though.

"I'll concede this is a deeply silly, rather awful movie.
But The Fountain is also so passionately sincere and
heartfelt about its own silly awfulness that it eventually
grows somewhat pitiable. It's tough to kick a mewing kitten,
even one this stupid and ugly.

A pal recently pegged Darren Aronofsky as “arrogant, but
in that same way we all were arrogant at 12 years old, back
when we still thought we were the first people who ever
thought of anything.”"

"The thing is, Izzy has come to accept that she's dying
and is rather looking forward to it. There's lots of
sonorous violin music to underline the wisdom of this,
though it doesn't keep Tom from poncing about doing tai chi
and yoga in a desperate attempt to find her a cure.

[...]

There seems to have been a missed opportunity with Donovan
the chimp, who recovers nicely from his tumor. No awe in
death for him. Pity they don't let him sing "Mellow Yellow,"
though."

Great film. For the first hour I wasn't enjoying it that
much, it felt too contrived for a symbolic film. In the end
things came together, and perhaps It was because I was
adding my own theories and ideas to it that boosted its
appeal.

Aronofsky goes Buddha.

Saw it today. Dropped few tears. But also it seemed so long
movie (however it's only 97 minutes). I loved the lighting
design. Cinematography was OK. And definitely too much FX.

3.85/5

it isn't that much symbolic but it's more taking some
existing philosophies about death (and accepting death and
doing yoga, lol)

read a book instead
