Internet persona vs Real life

I really find it interesting that you can hate someone
based on so little knowledge of them.

I would say that, how i act on this board is pretty much how
i act in real life. Except for the fact, that i more often
say "fuck off" or something similar, if someone does
something i dislike on this board.

I, for example, hated ezzkeralden for making loads of shit
topics (wich he does)

But i'm quite sure, that i could have a grand time if i had
a drink with him at a pub somewhere.

I'd really love to see for example, Cygnus and dog_belch
have a conversation in real life.

On the other hand, i feel better about being honest about
music someone produces, if they are "strangers". (online
friends, you might say)

I generally say to all the people that i know in real life
that makes music, that i like it.

Here, i really try to give some constructive critisism
(because i believe i'm able to give it)

DISCUSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's because no matter what little knowledge you have, it's
all the knowledge you have, and thus it's what you establish
a relation to. case closed.

I do generally dislike most people, because I find the
majority are charlatans and fools. I don't actively chide
them in real life because I'm loath to have any contact with
them beyond the entirely neccessary. Online however, I feel
I can call people out, rightly or wrongly, whenever I want,
as I can turn the bastards off and have nothing more to do
with them, once I've bored myself. Occasionally I meet
people and I really, really like them and invariably we
click and have a grand time. Most people, however, do my
fucking head in and I'd love to fucking do them over.

No, you'd still be aware that this knowledge is very thin.
Is it not intersting, that you can generate feelings from so
little?

I read somewhere that most people either basically trust, or
distrust all people they havent met.

I'm more in the naive/positive boat there.

In real life I'm actually quite sexy. Like, for instance, I
talk to girls and stuff. Here I'm just a geek like the rest
of you. And it's good that way. It keeps things in
perspective, which is always healthy.

So after the nights gone really well, and a few pitchers
have been drank, he says something very opinionated and
similar to his post method on forums. You slowly begin to
realize the core of him. He is the person behind the
posts. It all becomes more and more clear, you reach into
your wallet to pay for the drinks and tell him you've just
remembered you've got to be somewhere.

even if I know that my knowledge of what the rest of the
universe holds, I still have relate to it from time to
time.

in other words even if the amount of knowledge you have
about something is very very small, but that's all you have,
that's what you relate to. I relate to what I believe you,
not to what I believe you may be. Of course, it's
possible that my attitude towards you can change if I gain
more knowledge about you, like if I found out you were the
worlds first successful turing computer, but even then,
especially when it comes to humans, I can't be sure. Even if
I meet you in real life, you could be lying, acting,
pretending, and I'd never know the real you, but to
me that doesn't matter; I relate to what I believe you are,
not to what I believe you could be.

Sure, that explains why Bush is president.

But still, it might sound a bit pretentious, but i'd like to
believe that i try to keep my mouth shut about things i'm
certain i hardly know anything about. Like the nature of
some guy/girl sitting behind a keyboard somewhere.

I think the internet is a fun place to act out, be stupid,
and crazy. theres no rules

In real life I'm just a kind, pleasant dude. That's how I
was raised; I just mind my own business and do my own thing,
but when the time is right, i love to get into mischief .. i
like to explore and analyze

I would love to meet anyone from xltronic in real life
because I enjoy all of the interactions I have here. What I
fear is anyone here taking facets of my online persona and
applying them to my real-life persona. you know? for
example, i think dog_belch might punch me in the eye, or
take a heavy object and break it across my head

does anyone here even distinguish me from the general
clutter of posts? I'd say I only recognize about 5% of the
people that frequently post here (or anywhere) as separate
individuals. But then sometimes I feel closer to certain
individuals on here than I do in real life, which is a bit
disconcerting.

I really can't judge my online persona, it's all over the
place...
am I the "quirky" guy? probably not...

you can read all about what some girl from my highschool
thought of me here

you can view this girl's myspace here

you can buy my collaboration cd (with milieu) here

there are people who have distinct personalities here... and
it's not for just how long they've been around.

(these are just internet personas)

redrum you can sort of imagine as neil patrick harris in his
early years - but he speaks with a rich irish accent - and
is the type of guy who will stay with you through a
conversation right up until he starts disagreeing with
you, whereupon he frowns heavily and looks confused or angry
while taking a sip of beer

dog_belch you can kinda visualize as a squattier john
leguizamo, but not as well dressed, wears less leather and
gold and frowns a lot, if he disagrees with you - he
doesn't say a word- while he just stares into your soul and
wants to rip you apart. and you get scared! but then comes
the friendly sigh, mental handshake and agree-to-disagree,
then an earth-shattering subject shift into the 1990's -
which you've both just silently agreed will be easier to
talk about

impakt is a wider-eyed and chippier version of garfield i
imagine, likes to sit down and raise his eyebrows in
agreeance, and smile and scratch his head a lot.. is that
true???

What I don't understand about young people is their
confusion between being disagreed with, and being fucking
wrong, as in, based on facts, misinformed, erroneous,

i_x_ten is a long, blonde-haired Ali G who drinks a fruit
juice supplement ever morning, will take you into his
bedroom and show you a hard drive, whereupon he'll ask you,
in a fashion similar in style to a drug dealer selling you
some shit -- "hey......... do you like drum and bass?"
leaving you with the assumption that the hard drive is full
of drum and bass mp3's. so you say, "oh, yeah! but i didn't
bring my laptop." to which he raises one eyebrow and says,
"oh no problem......... i got the ftp..." and then does a
skateboard trick or something, and plays nintendo...

Something about the phrase "moribund moping schtick" and the

those movies where two characters get into a big fight and
start crying and yelling at each other but end up crying on
each others' shoulders and having a touching moment.

For some reason I tend to be less opinionated online. I
also think due to that Im not anyone to remember here.
Perhaps I should be more honest

Mr Belch-I respect those that call others out, I always try
to do that in real life. I know we havent ever had a
discussion before but usually in your rude angry ramblings
you have almost complete validity...which is something I
hardly see online, you just go the extra mile and remind the
people how daft they actually are (im waiting for my wrath
for posting this) its odd though I remember when I posted
here early on you were a much more optimistic person.
usually people are just jerks for the sake of being jerks I
dont usually think that of you, sometimes though I think
damn he went too far.

Dirty Priest I always hope when I spam you review it, mostly
because you give honest opinions. I do like the "oh its
nice" but it doesnt really help me progress, so I appreciate
the honesty

Throwing Ether:

+

*On the plus side, i really enjoyed the squarepusherish
complexity to it. Lots of good details

* The "youre ready" sample, and the things that come after
that bit are quite nice

-

*The whole song revolves around one synth riff that i don't
think is that strong. Try using some chord progression or
something. Suddenly changing the riff and the sounds
drastically.

In general, i think you pay too much attention to detail,
before you have something that really deserves to be worked
on. Try making 10 different basslines in one day, and then
listen to them the next day and see wich ones you like best.
I could imagine the way you started your track was "i want
to make some []pusher like beats NOW!!!"

hahaha youre right I usually write by making a couple of
bars then I go back and try and perfect them, then move
forward and I repeat this process until I finish. Problem is
I usually dont know where to go next after finishing up a
couple of bars. sometimes it makes something incoherit and
other times it creates writers block (like this time)

This definitely helps ill try this out thanks again!

Maybe it would help to imagine that you're writing something
that one should be able to play with a guitar or a piano.
You can imagine that with a lot of aphex's stuff, because
it's brilliant.

I'm a big fan of melodies. So that would be my advice, make
something simply that you can listen to for long, without
hating it, or feeling bland about it, and THEN start doing
the advanced beat thing (wich you actually do quite well)
