does anybody know of a way to reset (format) an ipod, without using any software? eg, on the ipod's interface itself

On my Sony mp3 player, I know there's a Format option, but I don't know about iPods.

No, I don't think you can. But you can always look in the settings menu. If its not there, there probably isn't a way.

you can only reset to factory settings. you need computer to format it

ok, thanks.. i actually finally managed to get it to work for long enough to format it on the computer, then put some stuff on it, and it crashed itunes..
HD is totally fucked. great pieces of equipment, they are.
