if you want a uniform frequency boost, it's good, i guess. i do it sometimes to mold sound a bit.

damn i had some tutorial somewhere where you had a list how the effects on the master channel should look like.
something like:
eq, compressor, limiter,
dunno about the eq though - sounds a bit stupid for me to put it in front of the comp so i guess that my list is quite right.
in my case - i just use one multiband compressor (mostly waves c4) at the master and that does it for me. i can slightly chang the eq with the bands.

something i heard for sure is following:
if you want to use an eq at the master - make sure you put it there after you have fully completed your track. the same with compresssor, limiter.
a track must be good sounding without those. when you make it sound good and then put those on the master it will sound even better.
when you put them on the track at the very beginning you have nearly no control over what you are doing, because when you solo a track for example and make it sound good, after you press the play button it will sound different - because the other channels will affect the eq/compressor too.
keep that in mind
