Album in a Day?

Hey,

Has anyone come across this before:

http://crapart.spacebar.org/aad/

The idea is that you have 24 hours to write an album. It
must be done in one go. Must be at least 20 minutes or 30
songs. No covers or prior work. And no sleeping!

Anyone think they'd be able to do it? I came across this
yesterday and thought it was quite an intriguing idea.. not
sure what the end result would be like, but it could be
quite entertaining.

the day off tomorrow and i only had 3 hours sleep last night
so im suitably fried to start work on such a project.

I probably couldnt do it, I get bored very quickly with my
own music unless I got something great coming up, and when I
have something great on it's way I probably would want to
"finish it as fast as possible" as I do belive in putting
hard work and thought into a track, and that takes alittle
while for me :)

You are an exception to the rule.

Haha, it's just a simple matter of coke and not wanting to
do anything else :p

I'd be intrigued to hear the results Indeksical. I'm hoping
to give this a go sometime in the next week or two.. I could
do with lighting a fire under my ass to get me writing stuff
again.

Could be a good catalyst.

I would usually agree.. I tend to put huge amounts of work
into finishing tunes.. possibly in this case though the
whole point is to fly through it and not get bogged down in
anything. Sure the end result might sound quite unpolished,
but sure what have you to lose?

Well, you lose a day in your life and possibly feel a little
tired for the next few days.. but it could be entertaining.

I understand, I have tryed doing something almost like "an
album a day" thing.
Had a short "one track a day" period a couple of years
ago... can be fun, but lately, if I can't come up with a
very good base for a track I can't be arsed to finish it,
not even arrangement wise and just throw it out and call it
finished.
Resaults in me only finishing "proper" tracks but also
resaults in me working allot longer on one track, sometimes
for about two months...

After my current project is finished I'm gonna try to be a
bit more playful and do some quick funny ones.

Ow, and I have not seen you on the board before today, so
welcome! :)

If I had the day off? Probably yes. Just set up some shit
for an ambient album, that would be the best/easiest way of
doing it.

i've cranked out decent tracks within one nite... but a
whole album...

thats alot of work or alot of wanking...

Me and a few mates attempted to make an album-a-month during
2004. I managed 9. I'm definitely going to have to try this
album in a day thing soon. Been wanting to for ages.

I have no interest in hearing some electronica /
ambient-shit album done in one night. I have very little
interest in hearing anything from this bloated genre as it
is.

This sounds really easy. You just make very repeatative
tracks.

After i've added a few things to a song I have to ignore it
for at least 12hrs or else I cant tell what is shit and what
isnt. so if i did this i'd have to play it very safe

interesting idea... it's like Scott McCloud's idea of a
24-page, 24-hour comic (probably inspired by it, don't you think?).
i'd try something like that if i wasn't so damn lazy and
enjoying sleeping so much.

i disagree with "a bad song is better than no song" though!

A very good point. The mastering/eqing would be difficult
for this reason too.

Looking at the rules, "No out-takes! If you start a song,
finish it and put it on the album." I could see this being a
real problem. I make about 30-50 unfinished tracks to every
track I finish, let alone decent tracks. If you adhered to
this, you'd end up with about 20 x 16 bar tracks and a
couple of longer better ones.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about the "bad song is better than no
song"

I think the world doesn't really need any more bad songs!

Although, at the moment I really need to be writing
anything, just to get me back in the zone (i've been out of
the zone for a while!)
