I'm becoming a Tortoise fan

I like toroise, they seem a post rock version of autechre.
I started with standards only because it was on warp and I'm
a huge warp fan. At first listen I thought it was crap and
tedious, i liked only few tracks like benway, then I adored
it and I think it's their best. Then i moved to the rest and
found it nice as well, but they are a bit underrated for me

a tortoise lives on land and a turtle lives in water.

the band makes good varied music.

clever guy
but i don't consider them as the indie rock version of
autechre

all their albums except "the brave and the bold" and
"everything is all around you" is almost perfect

check their latest boxset full of rarities and remixes +
dvd!
i consider it the best release of year 2k6

If you're worried about liking Tortoise, check out "The
Brave and the Bold". That should put you right off.

I like bonnie prince billy as well so I shoud check the
album. I'd like they did a gig in Italy i want to see them
live, and I don't think they are over-rated

Will Oldham is one of my all-time favourite artists and I
really like Tortoise, but that album just doesn't work for
either of them.

Nice. I think standards are their weakest album actually.
TNT and Millions are my favourites

ya, that's pretty perceptive linking them to autechre.
there are plenty of similarities. the track listing on the
new lazarus taxon retrospect highlights the parallels. on
the first disc autechre's 'today retrieval' is the only
remix and is sandwiched between 'sexual for elizabeth' and
'whitewater' which i think both show similarities to
autechre's style. Its ridiculous to say they're completely
influenced... but they borrow ideas from them and go as far
as highlighting it.

they're amazing live, catch them if you can. i enjoy their
albums, but they tend to put me to sleep a little bit. their
live show is invigorating, however. two drummers, two
xlylophonists, and some other lovely shit going on.
