Mr. Dog_Belch, if sadam was here posting (and we dont know
that he doesnt) would you yell at him for improper engrish.

"or indeed any fucking language" :)

people who say things like that generally seem to forget
what it means to be able to go anywhere you like, when you
want to.

with your bollocks, fuck you with your retarded comments.
Fuck you with your spamhead face, fuck you, fuck you up the
road you designed (little tip, they're meant to go from A to
B). FUCK YOU.

Exactly, if given a choice of prisons, would you rather for
the rest of your life (a) work a 9 to 5 job for lousy pay,
or (b) be stuck in a concrete building and be allowed a
short breather in a walled outdoor section every once in a
while?
I agree with GoDel that they should allow his wish to be
executed by firingsquad, non-public.

It should not be public. Then its exploitation/propaganda.

I actually didn't know that they still hung people.

They are still cutting off peoples hands, beheading, and
hanging faggots in the middle east. Im not really worried
about Saddam, actually.

he gets what he deseves, and they can only fight it/appeal
for months, instead of years, like here in the usa.

dies.

Justice != revenge

this is more revenge than justice, yeah.
and killing saddam will just piss off his supporters and
cause more violence. it wont help anything.

The purpose of the sentencing of a criminal seems to be a)
to mete out punishment in the hope that it will deter them
and others from committing the same crime again, or b) to
prevent the criminal from ever committing the crime again.

From the persepctive of the public (ie everyone who isn't
that criminal individual) life imprisonment fulfills point b
while a lesser sentence fulfills point a. A death sentence,
however, is the only one that fulfills both at the same time
and is therefore (literally) overkill.

However, a sentence of "life" rarely seems to actually mean
life in prison, so in that case death is the only way to
fulfill point b.

Saddam is more than likely guilty and shouldn't be allowed
to be a threat again, so life in prison really outght to
suffice. Any more is really vengeance and only serves to
quench a blood lust; which is understandable, but
unnecessary.

NB: the above post was written whilst under the influence of
bollocks and hunger and etc.
Now I will have some lunch.

A life sentence does mean a life sentence if it is without
parole, I believe. I don't understand how a life sentence
doesn't prevent the criminal from commiting a crime again.

Unless you talk about the butt-raping?

doesn't prevent the criminal from commiting a crime
again
and wonders who said it*

Oops : /, I mean rather: I wonder how that does not deter
criminals.

It doesn't work because people always end up thinking "it'll
never happen to me".

I'm sure many proto-dictators are now deciding on a less
dangerous and tyrannical path, such as bag-boys,
painter/decorators, bread-makers, etc, all thanks to Darth
Hussein being handed a DEATH sentence by the mighty Jedi
Knights; now the world will be a safer place, Praise Allah.

I got as far as an interview for a degree in despot when I
saw the news about Saddam. I decided to stick with my career
in IT for now.

I'm pretty sure I spotted Robert Mugabe mending lobster pots
in nearby fishing village last Tuesday - this Justice is
obviously having its desired effect.
