new Ministry studio album?..WOW!
though everyone hated DSOTS..I thought it was incredible
album..a huge step forward..all the jazzy horn driven
numbers were fantastic..reminded me of GOD..I hope they
venture further in that direction.

Filth Pig's got some great songs as well,,there's like a
whole opus in the middle..with Ministry it's best to skip
the singles and focus on the meat of the album

yeah the faster songs of filth pigs are pretty weak..but
it's things like Lava, Crumbs, Useless, Dead Guy, Gameshow
and the Fall..the whole middle of the album..listen to it in
sequence...there's a progression...amazing stuff

Ministry was on top during '88-92', he seemed to take his
own downward spiral into heroin and who knows what else
after that... maybe he is revitalized, but the last record
was released to mostly apathy. Face it, the reality that
every generation of music fans denies, that artists get old
and stop recording as good or original stuff. It'll happen
to you too....

Land of Rape and Honey is the best. It blew people away in
1989. ...Download "You Know What You Are" and "Flashback"
from it, i don't think you can buy them. "So what" from Mind
is his greatest Killing Joke ripoff.

Al also released under different aliases during his
peak(sorta like you know who) such as Revolting Cocks,
Pailhead, 1000 Dead Homo Djs, Lead Into Gold, Acid Horse,
Lard...

nope Alien was intentional..he's called himself that on
numerous releases :)
also Hypo Luxa

I so disagree with peaking thing in case of Ministry..they
have been maturing like fine wine..Psalm 69 was a misstep
towards the main stream but Filth Pig and Dark Side are just
as good as their Jackhammer freakouts, just more mature
..and the Killing Joke ripp off bit doesn't really
hold..because they are an acknowledged influence..he
(Al)even did a lot of production on the KJ's extremities
album..that would really be like calling Squarepusher an
Aphex Twin ripp off..bollix in'it?

I don't know if Psalm 69 can be called a misstep towards the
mainstream. A mind is a... was much more mainstream than
paslm 69. Either way I like all ministry albums except
'with sympathy' or whatever it was called. That one was not
a groin grabbingly good time.

Psalm 69 was a misstep towards Mainstream..I was following
the thing quite closely at the time..Al fired the whole
band..hired a god aweful Trash/Death Metal band Rigor
Mortis..as a backing band..so it went from the very Tribal
and unconventional Two Drummers Two Bassists 3 synth sampler
players..etc lineup to a Metal Band format Drummer Bassist
Two guitarists etc..he became a bit of a cock on that tour
as well and refused to play stuff off Twitch or the synth
heavy stuff off LORAH..It was a phase he got over
it..gladly:)

I'm also glad he got over the death metal industrial of
psalm but I still don't think it's even remotely mainstream.
Most of the songs don't even have much in the way of
structure.

i don't mean ripoff of Killing Joke as an insult, more of
homage, influence type thing, even Alian/Alien said how much
he loved and took from early Killing joke (its very obvious
on some songs)... yeah, i remember that, it went full
circle, after Killing Joke made a couple of attempts at more
mainstream stuff, Al was happy to help them do a harder
Waxtrax style record in the early 90s.

yeah okay I relent..thee's some good songs on there but
things like Just one Fix..Hero..Scarecrow..etc could have
been easily done by Metallica or megadeath who were both
selling albums in their millions at the time..that's
mainstream compared to Ministry's usual

ok...I agree. But then again what is ministry's usual.

With Sympaty - cheesy electro shite
Twitch - electro industrial
LORAH - getting heavier and starts using guitars
TMIATTTT - heavy and dark with more bass guitars
psalm 69 - full on heavy metal guitar industrial
filth pig - even more guitar and less synth
TDSOTS - EVEN MORE guitar and less synth

Ministry has been consistantly evolving over every release.
They have no usual sound; that's why I love 'em :-)

IF MINISRTY EVER WENT MAINSTREAM AS METALLICA AND MEGADETH
ID ..................FUCK WHO KNOWS WHAT ID DO........THE
CLOSEST THING THEY WILL EVER COME OT MAINSTREAM IS PSALM
69...WITH ALL THE MTV VIDEOS FOR THAT ALBUM............

LISTEN TO MINISTRY

hmm..interesting points..but even though there's no audible
synths on Filth Pig or DarkSide..there's some massive
sampler action going on...
By Ministry's usual I meant the
Political..subversiveness...was supplanted by the cheesy
pseudo Satanic posturing which is better left for Ozzy and
Dime a Dozen rockers of the time
