classic games day.

man i just finished the day just playing old games.

finally installed and conigured back my snes and n64
emulators and squeezed my bandwith for a few roms.

first - a few rounds snes starfox. manhave i become so slow
or was this game always that fast? i hope that's a bug in
the emulator otherwise i buy my self a t-shirt "ol' daddy"

afterwards some rounds secret of mana. my god i almost shed
a tear. once because of how good this game still is, twice
because i almost died on the first boss... i really lost it
i guess.

then i got at last some really good rom of star ocean - i
really recommend this to all those hardcore snes rpg gamers
(ophecks?) - had a lot of fun with it.

i also got secret of mana two but i didn't want to start to
much rpg at once.

i wanted to play chrono trigger but then i found some iso of
the playstation version with those cool anime movies and the
better sound! yikes!

then i launched the n64. doom64 on the first shoot. didn't
had that much fun with an fpp in years. especially without a
mouse :D

but what really made my day was zelda - ocarina of time...
uff great days.

wipeout 64 was a bit sucky though.

On an emulator with shorter load times, Chrono Trigger would
be wicked but I remember really hating the PS1 version
because it took forever just to load the menus. That's one
of my favorite games ever though, I cry at the part where
Robo gets attacked by his ''brothers''. It's soooooooo sad.

Been playing a lot of classic games lately, mostly Genesis,
because I'm saving up for PS3 and have no money to spend on
new games (except Splinter Cell and FFXII). Sega's barely
relevant today but back then they were all that and a bag of
chips. Herzog Zwei, Thunder Force IV and Dynamite Headdy are
still insanely hot shit.

Still the best ninja game ever-

Agreed, def. the arcade version, tho. i had a Genesis, with
games such as:
-Altered Beast (It came with the console, i still play it on
the emulator cause i sold my old genesis)
-Fantasia (brilliant gameplay, even better music)
-European Club Soccer
-Terminator 2 (Shoot 'em up with this pad actually worked
quite well)

I found this (see pic below) in a box in my spare room
earlier this week and, amazingly enough batteries for it.
The batteries still worked.

I beat megaman 3 today and beat megaman 2 yesterday
here.

I hate going through the search to find a site that actually
offers ROMs, so I just use that(though genesis is as high as
it goes).

the 'disappearing blocks" part in the heatman level is a
cunt.
and so is the beginning of quickman.

I still play hardcore arcade games like:
Metal Slug (all parts).
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
Punisher
Japanese lonelyspceshipshootthemup
and others.
Check MAME shitloads of good games on that emulator.

Im onto the Wily level now but Heatman and Quickman were
super hard

C'mon man Mega Man 2 was the easiest Mega Man. Even the hard
parts are easy... IE, skipping the disappearing block part
in Heatman's level entirely by simply using the Rush Rocket.

They remade it for Playstation with anime cutscenes but the
irritating load times sabotaged the experience.

best old game? easy. outrun.

What did you reckon of Outrun 2? I quite liked it. It's not
the memory-violating cash-in I had expected.

1. its harder than megaman 1, FACT
2. you can only skip some of the disappearing blocks stage
with the rocket because it runs out of fuel, in what could
be seen as a chilling precursor to the energy crisis that
would in later life face the children who played the game
originally

gameboy megamans (mega..men?) were about equally as good.
But now when I play nes megamans I usually just leave my
character sit while I listen to the music. I have and have
beaten every one on nes and most on gameboy. sliding and
turbo shots were a great addition. The very last ones which
sell for the highest now aren't as good as about the first 4
actually. I'd like to look at the code for what sort of
'random' number or whatever generates extra lives.. because
it always seems like if you get one you're bound to get
another soon.

In some spots you just keep going up/down the same ladder
etc in order to regenerate the same enemies to get the
rocket fuel to the max.

I completed Megaman 2 on the NES as a kid (did it in about 1
week as I had borrowed it). I fired it up on emulation a
couple of years back and couldn't get anywhere. It is really
hard/unforgiving in a way you just don't get with modern
games (Ninja Gaiden Black excepted).

i liked it. veryvery good.

not as good as the original, but i'm not sure if that is
nostalgia clouding my judgement ...i still play outrun now.

Pfft. W'ever.

The PAL Mega Man 2 had the creepiest box art ever. Mega Man
looks like some warped experimental cyborg.

Although the North American MM2 was also pretty gay and
totally inappropriate for the subject matter.

I always thought in that picture that it looked like he has
had his right hand cut off and is holding the stump in the
air. Very creepy.

I just really need to state that Megaman 5 is by FAR the
easiest Megaman.

All of the bosses, with the possible exception of Waveman,
can be defeated with the regular blaster. Easily.

Megaman 1 is probably the hardest for me. Though three is
also hard because the boss which you need to beat first has
the shittiest power. (Top man. WTFFTW?)
