I know there's lot of stuff of grime music, for example for
Rephlex but I don't know how it sounds like or if I know it.
Is it a kind of techno?

Grime is kind of born out of garage and uk hip hop. It's the
tempo of hip hop, the beats are fragmentary although
repetitive, it focuses more on the emcees/mcs, it generally
sounds quite gritty, dirty and, indeed, grimey.

I've been trying to think for about 5 minutes what its like
w/out sounding stupid. you summed it up very well Mr.
Murray. Im not really a fan of it, can stand a few tracks
here and there, but havent bought a cd or listened to one
from start to end, indeed, grimey.

It sounds like someone throwing poo in a metal bucket.

I've been trying to think for about 5 minutes what someone
throwing poo in a metal bucket sounds like.

that might be the worst description ever.

ive never heard any grime before, im thinking its like hip
hop beats but with real distorted basslines, bitcrunched
vocals?

Grime isn't hip hop speed, it's around 140bpm (and getting
faster, i've noticed), some of the half-step beats make it
sound slower than it really is. I think there's a bit of a
misconception here that it's all "dark" and bassliney...
that track impakt posted definitely ain't grime (good
though, nice bit of stereotype-dubstep LFO wankery :) Grime
isn't even all that "grimey" a lot of the time, there's
loads of helium vox and cheese and stuff.

But yeah, it's vaguely decended from UKG and 2-step, skippy
synthetic beats with cheapo-nasty samples (try listening to
some of F1's stuff, the guy has made whole EPs from about 8
sounds, looooo-fiiiiiii) the MCs mostly spit fast and angry,
and a lot of the tracks don't really "go anywhere", just
change up every 16 bars for the next MC. So much energy,
though. Check out dem all shot, i think this is the
biggest tune to come out in some time...
