Any way I can swipe the files from music on myspace that
won't let you DL without resorting to using a wave recording
program to record it as it plays?

IE does it cache it as some recognisable format/one you can
convert to MP3.

I need to know because I really want to DL "Closer"
byzomby, but don't have recording software on this
machine.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that seems to be fairly random; I think what determines
it is the page.

If it's a friend with shit taste in music's page, you won't
be able to shut it up and it'll blare out wanky indie rock
until you turn your speakers off.

If it's good music on an artist's page that you've
specifically gone to listen to, it's 50:50 whether or not
it'll work. As to getting a track you've played once to play
again without navigating away from the page and back, forget
it.

Some people will choose to make their music downloadable. If
the word download under the song title is black and its a
link, then its downloadable. Otherwise, its going to be
slightly discolored, and just say the word download.

I dunno if you'd give one but i know zomby really hates
people doing this, made a thread on another board about
people sharing myspace rips of his stuff on slsk. Tis a bit
of a pain but myspace rips are a huge no-no in "the scene",
i don't see how having 96kpbs copies doing the rounds for
such subby tunes can do any harm but there you go.

But as long as yer not sharing i guess it was sort of
pointless typing that, um, yeh.

I wouldn't rip Spliff Dub/Ganjaman Dub as I know they're
coming out "soon" (any idea of an approximate release date
BTW?) and will wait for the 12"- I have more dubstep as 12s
than mp3s. It's just that currently, whenever I want to
listen to Closer (which I think is an excellent track), I
have to use myspace's temperamental player, rather than just
use an mp3.

I've noticed the dubstep scene in general seems overly
worried about piracy (even fearing people cutting and
selling loads of 12"s of "unreleased" tracks), when as you
say, a low quality mp3 for such sub oriented music is going
to sound rubbish. I've also never encountered a dubstep
white label other than (official) early copies of a release,
so it seems unjustified.

I think the only way is the old wave recording technique.
And even that doesn't work with my soundcard for some
reason. I want a copy of Burial's Unite to listen to
offline, as myspace's player is utter shite and constant
buffer hell.

Or better yet, I wish the fool would finish it, and get it
pressed onto vinyl!

there is an option somewhere in your preferences that turns
off the automatic play thing, when you visit other people's
pages, I mean.

after you log in, click on "Account Settings", then click on
"Music Settings: - Change Settings-" (probably has a red
New! next to it) and click the second one, "Disable Band
Songs From Automatically Starting".

The herbology ep release sort of fell through, last i heard
spliff dub was coming out on army sometime "mid october"...
dunno though, his release dates always seem to get pushed
back, haven't seen word of any test pressings yet. Got a
couple of tracks coming out on bare dubs in november though,
savage and memories i think.

tjaho, Carlos og Pedro on the myspace. Add us or something! I
don't know how to work this stuff nor "what's up?" on that
site or whatever. Check those friends. They're mostly
Carlos, but also Carlos and someone else. And one guy I have
no idea who is. I, Pedro, will be using this page at random
times if I ever need to do Myspacy things.

how do I, like, do stuff? I had a hard enough time finding
the sign in form and uploading songs was a bitch...

I was listening to Unite again earlier (on myspace again)
and it's great. The female vocal reminds me of Baby D's "Let
me be your Fantasy".

1. Goto the MySpace site that you want to download the music
from
2. That page must have at least one song available for
download
3. Open notepad
4. Right-click the download link and select copy Link
5. Paste this link into your notepad

You see something like this:

http://mp3download.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=
bandprofile.downloadSong&bsid=OldSongNumberHere&song_name=
Title of the Old Song Here &fid=bandid

6. Right-click the add link and select copy link
7. Paste this into your notepad

You will see something like this:

asfunction:addSong,NewSongNumber^Title of the New Song
Here

8. Now in the original URL just replace the old song number
and old title with the new number and title. Paste this URL
into your browser and click OK.

9. After several seconds, you will be prompted to download
the song.

if there isn't at least one song available to download, do
this:

All we need to do is get the XML file that the player loads
and reads. The easiest way to do this is to clear your IE
cache, reload the player from the band's site, and look for
the XML file that gets created in your cache directory. The
XML file may not be easy to spot without a clean cache
directory. The file generally follows this naming
convention:
MP3_XML.cfm?xmlfid=bandid&rand=xxxxxxxxxx (10 digit random
number)

Cut and paste that XML file onto your desktop and open it
wth Notepad.

Once you look in the XML file you will see the direct path
of the mp3 song. For example:
"92/12/57836332/57836332_d13db5fz.mp3" (this is an invalid
link -- just an example)

After this, append that directory to
http://musicstream.myspace.com and you're golden. For
http://musicstream.myspace.com/92/12/57836332/57836332_d13d
example, " b5fz.mp3"

MP3 Gopher was excellent at grabbing myspace tunes but
it's been broken for a while, the usual case for these sort
of programs
