[bleep] sound quality of songs?

i'm thinking about filling my collection with tracks from
bleep, but i'm concerned about audio quality.

most of my library consists of 160Kbps AAC files, and i find
them to be more than adequate for my ears. i can very
easily tell the difference between, for example, a 128Kbps
MP3 and a 128Kbps AAC

anyways, can anyone recommend or not recommend bleep?

if the quality isn't that great i'd rather spend the extra
money on buying the CD's and taking the time to rip them
myself

most of the stuff is flac or 320kbps mp3's.
and I'm pretty sure 90% of the people can't tell the
difference between a 320kbps mp3 and a wav.

but aren't the ones from Bleep variable bit rate, meaning
that they bit rate dynamically changes depending on the
"depth" of the frequencies being extrapolated in the track?

:-s

they started out using alt preset, but i've noticed a few
320 releases lately. I never use it for other than the
freebies, seeing as I tend to get the files I buy on
originals anyway...

well for example, say there's a track where the intro is
literally just a 606 hihat being triggered for a few
bars....will it sound artefacted?

you could always download one track to see how an actual vbr
mp3 sounds.

like isniezot says, the older mp3's used to be made using
lame with alt preset. which gives a vbr result. although the
bitrate is variable, the coding-algorithm is meant to give a
constant quality. in other words the algorithm adjusts its
bitrate given the complexity of the track, and in the
meantime maintaining the same quality. normally these rips
are indistinguishable from the originals.
normally though. a typical ae-track is another story.
especially their later work. but you can buy those in flac.

Why would 320kbs mp3s from Bleep sound any different from
anyone else's 320kbs mp3s?

variable bit rate sir

Well the point of VBR is that reduces bit rate as they
aren't required, thus pure silence can be easily modelled at
32kbps but more complex work automatically shifts to around
320kbps, it uses whatever bits are needed for what job
entirely transparently.

Bleep uses V0 level LAME coding [i.e. the highest level in
mp3] for the VBR files thus their files are entirely
comparible to that of 320kbps CBR files.

i think i value my 808 more than my 303 at the moment

actually, they're probably on a par with each other

i certainly love my 808 more than my 909

but i still want my 909

i never like trusting a computer program to do the job of a
human, so i was anxious about it all
