I mean, Jesus Christ On A Bike. WHAT THE FUCK. OMG and
other expressions of bewilderment and horror. Somebody
needs to fucking sort it out.

Yes, that is silly. But it's nothing to do with America. A
similar thing could also happen in the UK quite easily.

I get the distinct feeling we're not getting even half of
what actually is going on in that story.

maybe the school was looking for a reason to get rid of that
teacher for some reason. not that that makes it less
ridiculous, but surely there's more to this than what is
told.

for thoze of you who dont know, frisco TX is an extremey
small town inside of dallas (where i live). it's basically a
suburb. the frisco indepenedent school district is just a
handful of people. its only somewhere in the area of 30
schools total - and its brand new, too. that place has only
been inhabited as widely as it is now for less than 10
years..

anyways, that school administrations decision making
process probably only takes a few minutes and is up to just
a few people - compared to Dallas ISD where the decision
wouldve had to go through thousands of people and taken
weeks probably... it worked aggainst the art teacher that
only a few people are actually in charge there

even tho it being inbred christian neocon texas it happened
in an independent school district, which are usually
populated by minorities, mostly hispanic. and not very
religiously oriented.. thats why i find it so weird, i blame
it on the size and age of the ISD

oH, DEAR. This sort of censorship is far worse than, say,
Saudi Arabia where religious police will keep women from
exiting a burning building if they are immodestly dressed.

It's not "America". It's a small school district that
happens to be in America.

And you don't think constructive dismissal occurs outside of
the States?

So a woman got sacked and will most likely appeal the
decision through the courts.

Shit, all those Kurds gassed by Saddam's baathist regime,
all the people who survived through the Rwandan genoside,
the kids being hunted down by police hit squads in Brazil
and so on etc.etc. must be well fucking grateful they don't
live in a society that constructively dismisses a teacher by
paying out the remainder of her contract.

I've never heard of any mainstream media citing Rwanda,
Iraq, or Brazil as the land of the free, or the most
advanced democracy on earth, or even - *cringe* - the most
liberal country in the world

The fact this incident took place does not imply that
America isn't free. This is a decision made by a small group
of individuals in a small place in a big country. There are
actions available to the woman.

I mean it could be argued that the school board have elected
via democratic decision to exercise their free will in not
renewing this teachers contact.

democracy and far from being the land of the free this case
demonstrates absolutely nothing other than your joy in
America bashing :)

absolutely, and cygnus's comments have shed light on the
matter.

i just think you'd be very, very hard-pushed to find people
in Europe coming to the conclusion that some sort of action
needed to be taken after an art teacher took children to
such an exhibition. I can't imagine any parents having any
problems with it.

And I really don't think that's a generalisation.

I don't see how saying "it depends on how arrogant and
ignorant americans have managed to be on that particular
day" is any better than saying something like "it depends on
how arrogant and ignorant Jews/blacks/asians have managed to
be on that particular day."
