selfish and trivial mergers sound like a commitment to some
higher goal?

I think its ironic how (if you follow the blogs on youtube)
everyone was squabbling over whether they should have paypal
buttons. Some thought it was too much like panhandling. Some
thought it was fine. Meanwhile the site (owned by 3 people
in their 20's) is getting sold for over one billion.
