well, tomorrow i'm off to university. i'm sure most people
my age go through this when they head off to a university
away from home - missing friends, family etc. - but it all
seems different to me. the friendships i have with people
seem to go much deeper than with all those popular kids at
college who rejected me, they just head off with a few tears
but soon forget their old friends. i just can't see that
happening to me. i spend almost all of my time with friends
- the old group from school, the unruly bunch i go driving
with, the old friends i havent seen for ages anyway, and the
close few i have been to hell and back with.
most of my friends are staying put, in decent jobs already
or doing apprenticeships, most of them dont really see why i
should bother going away.
i'll miss all the pratting around - the chucking eggs and
flour over eachothers cars, the stealing eachothers shoes,
the vowing never to speak to them again but seeing the funny
side of it all the next evening in the pub, the staggering
home at 4 in the morning. i'll miss the friendly bunch at
work, i was never there long enough to quite get to know
them properly. i'l miss the family, who i might not even
have when i leave if their plans to emigrate go ahead.
and of course my girlfriend, who i am really worried for. im
terrified social services will move her back to the
druggie-infested hell hole that is Dagenham, away from the
first real family she has ever known, and even further from
me. Bastard useless social worker tossers. I'm the only
thing that has remained stable in her life for the past two
years, and she really needs me. and i can tell she means
it.
of course i will have fun at university, of course i will
make new friends, but i just cant let all this fade away
while i am gone.

Haha swears you're one insensitive bastard..
but I like you anyway.

Don't worry about the university Ezkerraldean. Unless it's
in another country you won't completely lose contact
with your old gang. Probably what will happen is a filtering
of the friends you have. The best ones will become evident
and stick, the peripheral pals and acquainences may fade to
make room for the new friends you make at the university.
It's not gonna be too drastic and heartwrenching, I don't
think. Just let things work themselves out and have a good
time, but don't neglect your old friends either.. and you'll
be fine! :)

Mate, haven't they told you what university is like?! It's 3
whole years of that sort of fun and games, with even more
drama as there are no parents around to keep people in
check.

On a related note, (years after leaving school) I'm going
for a night on the lash with my old school mates in 2 weeks
time and last night I went over my ex (school days)
girlfriend's house for a cuppa and a natter. You will stay
in touch with the people you really liked and you'll care
less and less about those you can't be bothered to get in
touch with as time goes on.

Too many people go to uni now. They need to get it back down
to about 2% of school leavers, get the rest on some useful
vocational shit. Otherwise, the chinese are gonna eat our
useless 2-2 degree holding asses alive.

I made the dreadful mistake of trying to save money by
staying at home and commuting. I don't see how I'm going to
make any friends this way, as everybody seems to be having a
riot of a time at halls and I have to piss home on the train
at night.
